I dont know how this will work. NBC is light hearted affair of a network and Hannibal is pretty gruesome with his murders and the ones he helped on. This series would be perfect for HBO or even a network like FX. Just a network that isnt afraid to go there in terms of what is shown. I dont see any shows right now on NBC that really push the bar in terms of risk.

Not sure if NBC giving a series order was a smart choice. I mean, the success of this show depends on the casting of Lecter. And we all know that role won't be an easy task to carry out.

I still want Mark A Sheppard in the role. He would be a younger Lecter, which makes sense for the context of the show.

I don't think it matters what tv network picked it up because the gruesomeness of the murders were never ever going to be seen. However with a well established character like Lector most viewers are going to have a certain expectation going in that will allow them to fill any gaps they may have. Who they hire in the leads is the first real hurdle because Sir Anthony Hopkins is going to be a hard act to follow.

Hugh Dancy To Star In NBC Series ‘Hannibal’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

British actor Hugh Dancy is set as one of the two leads in Hannibal, NBC’s 13-episode series from Gaumont International Television, written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller and executive produced by Martha DeLaurentiis. The project is described as a contemporary thriller series featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham (Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship. The role of Will Graham was played by Ed Norton in the 2002 movie adaptation, in which Anthony Hopkins reprised his Oscar-winning role as twisted series killer Hannibal Lecter. Dancy, an Emmy nominee for HBO’s Elizabeth I, recently recurred on the Showtime comedy series The Big C.
We've got a new Will Graham.

Shame on the article for not mentioning William Petersen, though.

Wow, that is just a terrible choice for Will Graham. I hope for Dr. Lecter they cast someone who has...y'know...hit puberty.

The fact that he looks like a twelve year old boy, not the FBI's top profiler.

I'm very, very intrested to see who they get to play Hannibal. It's going to be a damned hard role to fill. Has it been said when this is supposed to air? I'm assuming sometime next year.

I don't really know anything about Hugh Dancy, so no comment.

Between that Fringe clip at the top of the page and his Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Jared Harris isn't a bad idea for Hannibal, although I suspect this Hannibal will be younger than Harris.

I agree with Pink Ranger, I want Mark Sheppard in the role.

He deserves a starring role. Though I fear that NBC will want a bigger actor. Too bad Jason Isaac signed onto Awake. He'd be good in the role.

Jared Harris would be ideal. And isn't he done filming Mad Men so his schedule could be open.

David Slade To Direct NBC Drama ‘Hannibal’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Feature director David Slade (Eclipse) is set to direct the pilot for Hannibal, NBC’s 13-episode series from Gaumont International Television, written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller and executive produced by Martha DeLaurentiis. The project is described as a contemporary thriller featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter — who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship. This marks Slade’s return to NBC where he directed the pilot for freshman drama Awake last season. He most recently helmed the Lifetime drama pilot American Housewife starring Melanie Griffith.
He directed one of the best pilots this past season, so....

Many are worried that NBC is a light hearted network but many of your are forgetting about HEROES. It was an NBC show and it had plenty of blood and violence.

I love the character. I really do. But they have milked this thing for all it's worth and because of that,Hannibal doesn't have that scariness and mystery that he did early on. I might check it out,but I'm not that excited about it or have high hopes.

I think Hannibal Lector is as compelling a character as there is in fiction today in all forms of media from print media to film.I do not think they've milked the character enough there has been 20 plus James Bond movies I think Hannibal has the same potential as James Bond had when that franchise first started 40odd years ago.

Hannibal for me was made as iconic as he is by Anthony Hopkins. I'm wary of this show, but I'll definitely check it out. They're gonna be hard pressed to find someone to match Hopkins work as Lecter.

I think the key is the actor not trying to do a Hopkins impression but rather putting his own spin on Lecter.

I'm sure many people felt like you when they thought about James Bond being played by someone other than Sean Connery.

It's not like Hopkins is even the first Lecter. Brian Cox is pretty great, actually. Not as showy, but still really captures the essence of Lecter.
