It is a shield. Being shaped like a shield is one of the definitions of the word:
Quote:
shield

noun

1. a broad piece of armor, varying widely in form and size, carried apart from the body, usually on the left arm, as a defense against swords, lances, arrows, etc.
2. a similar device, often of lightweight plastic, used by riot police to protect themselves from rocks and other thrown objects.

3. something shaped like a shield, variously round, octagonal, triangular, or somewhat heart-shaped.

4. a person or thing that protects.
5. a police officer's, detective's, or sheriff's badge.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/shield
So shield is an accurate description.

Also, for the first definition:
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

But your'e right, crest or insignia might be more apt, but it's probably just a case of going with what sounds better/cooler.

I agree. Cool always trumps accuracy in the movies.

Again, just making a point to keep things in prospective and not get too pissed at the way people describe things.

Love that spoiler! Now that's a shield!

(hope Snyder doesn't use that idea!)

This is not a pipe. Very famous painting illustrating the point that it is a image of a pipe...ie: not a real pipe.

This is not a shield... it is an image of a shield... and so on

just to keep people thinkin...

(george reeves cape on Cavill)

It always bothered me me (aesthetically speaking) how the costume designers "tucked" the cape into the collar. Could it be done better?

I always really liked the George Reeves way of having the cape hang more loosely around the back of the neck, as opposed to the all-around tucking that other versions (like Returns and MOS) have. Just a personal preference.

I think that besides maybe being difficult to CGI the \S/ insignia on the cape it may be that since they are "tucking" the cape in the collar it makes a lot of folds which hide the crest unlike the George Reeves version that laid flatter on the back and showed the \S/ off very well.

Very few decent pics of Lois from the set yet, I'm sure we'll see more in a few weeks.

I've no idea why this particular picture of George Reeves was used. There must be plenty of better ones out there.

He wishes!

I couldn't find any decent, big powerful looking giants or beasts to put in there this "Predator" was the best I could find on short notice. Hope Snyders team does better.

But that is the height of the pole on MoCap man.

Should be interesting.

I'll accept that answer... for now. But if I don't see any after more set pics of Amy as Lois, I'll take it into my own hands. And I'm horrible at photoshop.

Patiently awaits Jor-El as Master Chief manip.

I don't know, Superman saving Lois or Clark and Lois having a moment. Something cheesy romcom like that or something else.

the description of JorEl's suit sounds like this: without the helmet.

I assume you mean a current Lois and Clark manip and not a Dean Kane pic.
