I wouldn't be surprised to see the title possibly change.

It's possible but I don't think they will. I mean look at the 2011's The Thing, it's a prequel to Carpenter's movie but does it need to have the same title? Because they want name recognition of the brand.

My first reaction to the title was a no, but after I read what they intended to do, I'm curious about it. I mean, the Pacino one was a remake, updated for the late 70s/early 80s, so why not do something for the 21st century?
The closest thing I can think of to a good modern telling was New Jack City, and that's 20 years ago (Pacino's Scarface is even referenced in that film). Though NJC felt like a combination of Scarface and the Untouchables. As long as they don't revisit Tony Montana as a remake, reboot, prequel, or a ghost, I'll probably go watch it if the trailers are good. |

Well ya the thing I was like it should have gotten a new title or at least tagline attached. Maybe that is what they will do here.

I dont know about this considering how cinema now has a lot of remakes and what not this worries me. I really like Pacinos Scarface and I feel like the remake or reimagining is more of a way to cash in on the name of Scarface versus doing a genuine reimaginig of a rags to riches story.

I'm listening to Push It To The Limit and I had to come here! What with talks of Robocop remakes too
![]() I actually wrote a script awhile ago about a remake of Scarface. It involved a LA gang leader, Anthony 'Tony' 'Scarface' Jackson released from a 10 year sentence and he climbs back to the top by eliminating the fictionalized crime boss of the LA mafia and reshaping how crime works within the system. Gaining power, money and women, and making enemies on both sides of the law! My cousin also drew a badass pic of what I envisioned...A b/w shirtless pic of Tony, holding a gun, his head turned, showing the scar down his face, with a tattoo on/down his back, saying 'THE WORLD IS MINE'

So is this movie going to be made or what? I would just have the film set in modern day NYC or LA with a white gangster who rises to the top of the criminal underworld and the rest is history. He has the local cops and feds trying to bring him down aswell as a rival gangster.

I hope a remake doesn't get made. I don't see a point. In fact, I would rather have a ripoff than a third remake.

They could always reboot the original and set it back in the 30s.

I still like the original better. The remake was too cheesy imo.I'll be fine with a remake of sorts to that one. They could make it noirish.Switch the style up a little.Another cool idea would be to remake the 83 version and make it a neo-noir.That would be cool.

Crazy idea: Wait until a film is finished and you've seen it before lambasting it.

The 83' version was pretty stylized for its time, but at the same time some parts have become pretty dated because of the stylization.

I think when he says remake, he's talking about the 83 version, which is a remake itself.

I wasn't really directing that to anyone specific, just everyone who blindly feels incensed and grabs their pitchforks when a remake/reboot/rewhatever is announced or discussed.

Ah, okay.
Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I never get angry over remakes, because I think remakes can offer new things. I get angry when people get pissed that Hollywood is making foreign remakes, and they say that they should watch it in the original language, but that's another story. |

But when someone wants to remake Cliffhanger, that's when I get mad because the studio 'reaching' for a recognizable title to exploit. And that happens a lot sadly with most remakes. I'm more worried about the state of the industry and where it's heading, but that's for a different thread. Anyway, I had no issue with True Grit because the Coen Bros were proactively pursuing it and wanted to see a new take that was closer to the book. It had to come from some sort of a creative spark..

If the remake's terrible, it's terrible. I don't really care because I'll always have the original movies.
I think that the future will bring less remakes. When there is an oversatuation of a certain thing, there's usually backlash. Also, remakes have been making less and less money at the box office. |

Yes, there is an over saturation and the studio system is in a state of flux, hence a movie like Battleship.

I don't think there's anything wrong in remaking Scarface...The way I see it, it's a rare movie, that needs to brung into new life, and reflect the modern day gangster. The 2 movies have been relevant to the times of criminality, why not do a one that reflects today?
