Jon Fareau To Direct J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke NBC Pilot ‘Revolution’

EXCLUSIVE: Jon Favreau has been tapped to direct Eric Kripke/JJ Abrams’ high-concept NBC drama pilot Revolution. The project, written by Supernatural creator Kripke, is being described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. Abrams, Kripke and Bryan Burk are executive producing. This marks the first drama pilot directing gig for Favreau, who has helmed a few comedy pilots in the past, including that for the ABC series In Case Of Emergency starring David Arquette. In addition to Revolution, Favreau has Tweaked, a comedy pilot at CBS. The project, which Favreau wrote on spec and is attached to direct, was greenlighted in October but has not been cast yet and may shoot outside of the regular pilot season. CAA-repped Favreau’s recent feature directing credits include the two Iron Man movies and Cowboys & Aliens.

That's quite a three-way of talent.

Rogers will play Danny Matheson, a capable, cunning hunter with a good heart. Spiradakos will play Charlie, a warrior. Phillips will play a doctor. Written by Kripke and directed by Jon Favreau, Revolution is executive produced by Abrams, Kripke, Bryan Burk, Kathy Lingg and Athena Wickham through Bad Robot Prods. and Warner Bros. TV Rogers, repped by APA and Dino May, also recently booked a recurring role on the Showtime pilot Ray Donovan.

Never heard of any of these actors.

Former Breaking Bad evildoer Giancarlo Esposito — who currently recurs as Sidney/Magic Mirror on ABC’s fairytale drama — has landed a starring role in Revolution, NBC’s hour-long pilot from J.J. Abrams and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.

The thriller is described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.

Esposito will play Capt. Neville, a hard-as-steel military man with a genteel southern manner who may not always be what he seems.

Jon Favreau recently closed a deal to direct the pilot.

Billy Burke, whose TV credits include The Closer, 24 and Rizzoli & Isles but who is perhaps best known for playing Kristen Stewart’s dad in the Twilight flicks — has been cast in NBC’s Abrams/Kripke-produced hour-long drama pilot.

The thriller is described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.

Former Cape crusader David Lyons is returning to NBC with a co-starring role in one of the Peacock’s hottest pilots — the Untitled J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke Project (formerly Revolution), TVLine has learned.

He’ll play Bass, a part that was originally earmarked for Twilight’s Billy Burke (who has now assumed the lead role of Miles).

The thriller is described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.

Not a good first impression; it feels like they're cashing in on The Hunger Games with the costumes and archers. The Walking Dead has people dirty, sweaty in whatever clothes they had and can find. "Hold on let me find my boots that take a long time to put on."

Well it's not like The Hunger Games invented archery.

I like the look of it. I like that they're not going all TWD with it, because the situation isn't quite as dire as there being dead folk rising to eat whole families. It's sort of weirdly elegant looking.

I am looking forward to this. Kripke, Abrams, Favreau doing the pilot, Lennertz doing the score...it all sounds like "winning" to me. I just have no clue what the plot will be about except for energy ceasing to exist in the series. What will be the cause of it though? With the minds of Kripke and Abrams both behind the show....the answer could be epic.

Looks cool. This is definitely my most anticipated new show for next season! Might there be a pilot script review somewhere? I wish I could find out more about the story, but everything I've seen so far has been so vague. I love post-apocalyptic stuff, so this, along with Falling Skies and The Walking Dead, are going to keep me satisfied year-round.
