I absolutely LOVE 'Video Games'... and think she has the potential to be the biggest thing since Gaga.

BUT... i'm not going to listen to anymore of her music until the album comes out. I'll be buying it right away and see if she can hook me in completely.

So what did everyone think about her performance on SNL? NBC's Brian Williams dissed her pretty bad:

Quote:
"Brooklyn hipster Lana Del Rey had one of the worst outings in SNL history last night-- booked on the strength of her TWO SONG web EP, the least-experienced musical guest in the show's history, for starters..."

I think she is great live, but she seemed way too nervous that night and unfocused. Not her best performance.

She did great on Jools Holland and Taratata last year on Euro TV, no idea what happened on SNL. She's spoken about finding it hard to adjust to performing for TV, because she's used to doing club shows her whole life. All you have to do is YouTube her live stuff to see how on point she can be, her Poolside performance of Born To Die is spine tingling.

It wasn't great, but I've seen worse. People are just jumping on her for the hell of it, IMO.

It was a dreadful perfromance.

I hate saying that because I couldn't sing to save my life but it really was quite poor.

I'll chalk it up to nerves... but she really doesn't want to get this kind of reputation early on.

Way worse like Cassie's 106 & park performance.

I like Lana Del Rey but in regards to her SNL performance:

1) She was clearly nervous but its understandable as she doesn't even have an album out yet and she's performing on SNL with millions of people watching.

2)One less than good but not bad performance doesn't mean she's a terrible singer or performer in the least bit.

Yeah, I've seen other live performances and she's quite good in them. It's a shame she's getting a lot of criticism because of SNL, hope she comes back once the album is out and does so much better.

Daniel Radcliffe's sticking up for her...
Quote:
Daniel Radcliffe swoops in to Lana Del Rey's 'SNL' defense
by Ray Rahman

Call it Harry Potter and the Cold-Blooded Critics.

After hosting last weekend’s Saturday Night Live, Daniel Radcliffe is publicly coming to the defense of the episode’s musical guest Lana Del Rey, whose performance has inspired the first Great Music Debate of 2012.

“It was unfortunate that people seemed to turn on her so quickly,” Radcliffe said to the British press of Del Rey, who sang “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” on that fateful night.

“I also think people are making it about things other than the performance,” the actor continued. “If you read what people are saying about her online, it’s all about her past and her family and stuff that’s nobody else’s business.”

Added Radcliffe, “I don’t think it warranted anywhere near that reaction.”

And some of the initial reactors are starting to agree. One noted Del Rey critic, Juliette Lewis, later came to the conclusion that, you know what, she doesn’t dislike Lana as much as she thought she did, tweeting:

I woke up singing a @LanaDelRey song! Such great haunting melodies! Regardless of my own taste LIVE she’s a #FreshandYummy songwriter.Period

If this sort of turnaround becomes more common among the singer’s early detractors, things might bode well for Lana’s debut album Born to Die, slated to be released January 31.

Readers, what layer of meta-backlash are you currently at? Let us know in the comments below.
Good man.

She has Letterman and Ellen in Feb, another chance for her in the U.S. i guess.

Her album pre-orders are going well and her interest keeps climbing even with SNL. As much of a mis-step as it was, all you have to do is type her name into YouTube to see her countless good live performances, which people are doing.
It's only fair to give her a chance, she's not a seasoned performer, but the talent and music is there. As Daniel said, she's had her critics since day 1, SNL just gave them reason to sink their teeth in her again.

Everyone else outside of America has seen her better side and are ready for her, maybe next month on Letterman and Ellen she'll be able to showcase herself better for Americans.

Haha... defended her tonight with my friends. Went up against an avid GaGa nut whose ultimate response was...

''Shes ****... she has only gotten to where she is because of her billionare daddy kicking a few doors open''.

Why are my tastes always so different?

Funny that, because Gaga got the same criticism over her wealthy Father also back in the day. How quickly people forget it seems.

I keep hearing all my annoying hipster friends talking about how she's the next big thing. So today I finally checked her out.

Oof. I don't want to be mean, but I'll just say I'm not a fan. Her voice (or lack there of) is just not my thing. I'm sure she's a talented songwriter, and if she is she should stick to that. . .

:/
