gave her album a listen based on the opinions in this thread
good stuff the radio should be pushing her more than the generic pop hits swarming the music scene

Her live performances leave a lot to be desired. She tanked on SNL then got spoofed on by SNL.

Just listened to her entire album. Music is in safe hands. Gods and Monster is best song on album followed by This is What Makes Us girls. I think she is the second most talented female artist working today behind Adele, that's how good that album was.

I like Summertime Sadness, but its kind of buzzkill when you find out the song is about a suicidal lesbian.

If she doesn't win, now you know why:

Earlier this week, the singer's "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack contribution "Young and Beautiful" made it onto the Academy's 75-song long list as a contender for one of at least five Best Original Song nominees.

However, Deadline reports through an unnamed source that someone has been mailing the Academy music committee letters claiming the song had been disqualified. It includes a printout of an article, with an attribution to Variety, claiming that "Young and Beautiful" didn't make the cut because the movie had changed release dates. No such article exists in Variety or anywhere else, apparently.

Also from Rolling Stone: Inside the Academy Awards: How a Song Can Win an Oscar

Deadline's insiders claim they've made no headway in figuring out who it is sending the letters. The movie's studio, Warner Bros., and soundtrack record label, Interscope, are attempting to educate Academy voters that Del Rey is still in the running. Warner Bros. is reportedly recutting a music featurette for voters so that it will specifically highlight Del Rey's song within the movie, among the many other songs from Warner Bros. movies that are up for nomination.

Sabotage aside, the song has lived on outside of Gatsby's mansion. In October, the label released a remix of the track by Cedric Gervais, whose remix of Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" became a big hit in October. "I'm a huge fan of Lana Del Rey's music," Gervais said of the "Young and Beautiful" remix. "Her voice is amazing and I built an entirely new instrumental around the vocal. It's killer for the dance floor but also something that sounds great in the car."

In other Del Rey cinema news, the singer recently starred in her own short film "Tropico," which came out earlier this month. At the Los Angeles premiere for the movie, Del Rey announced that she is working on a new record titled Ultra-Violence, despite previous reports that she had a "very fickle" muse. "I really just wanted us all to be together so I could try and visually close out my chapter before I release the new record," she said at the event.

I'm just going to interject a little bit of negativity in here but i'm not impressed with this person's music. She's a factory made puppet and that's all.

Lana Del Rey is a top female artist out there today. I believe the only other female artist with better music is Adele. Her voice and style of music is 50's and 60's mixed in with todays beats and her own unique, raw and uncut style. I love her.

Eh her songs are hit or miss with me. But her songs I like I really like, for example: This Is What Makes us girls, Gods and Monsters, Starry eyed, Off to the races, Young and Beautiful. Love those songs. Her others drag me and put me to sleep. I skip over those. I'm missing a few, I'm sure though

I think she's brilliant. Some of her unreleased tracks like Black Beauty and Angels Forever are fantastic. I hope there's some more news on her next album, "Ultraviolence" (awesome title) soon.

I thought the Tropico music video was decent, though. I prefer the music videos of National Anthem, Videogames, and Born to Die.

She is great live these days. I was lucky enough to see her and she was really really good. I think it must be because she is more comfortable on stage these days and doesn't get so nervous.

First single from her new album should be out any day now, it's called "West Coast".

Love it. Quite different from her past material. The tempo change on chorus is surprising and totally effective.

Factory made? Have you actually listened to the lyrical content of her songs? The line "my pussy tastes like pepsi-cola" sound like a factory made popstar to you?

'West Coast' is great, love it for being edgier than her previous material and I think the influence of The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, who produced her latest album, is highly noticeable on that track. The tempo changes work nicely as well.

Have listened to a few of the other tracks on the album which were released as singles recently, but can't say I've been too impressed. With 'West Coast' being edgier than her previous efforts, I was expecting more of the same from the album, but from the several tracks I've listened to, it's a bit too similar to what she did on 'Born to Die', which is a bit disappointing. And I'm speaking as a big fan of the latter album.

Will reserve final judgement for after I listen to the whole thing though.
