Will this show be serious or will it be more like Brave and the Bold?

The desire with this cartoon was to return animated Batman back to ''a more serious tone''.

And as Kurtwood Smith said there, they are playing it pretty ''straight''.

So all things considered, I'd say you should expect the same level of seriousness you get from Young Justice and Green Lantern: TAS.

I don't really get the point of another Batman animated show so soon after the Brave and the Bold. It's time to give it a rest, this isn't going to please anybody, its just going to annoy the fans of the Brave and the Bold, much like The Batman irked DCAU Batman fans, its not going to give the fans that want a carbon copy of TAS what they want, it's not gonna do much for the casual fans that want to see Bats fight the Joker or Two Face and it's going to upset some of the comic book fans because of the whole "Alfred packing heat" thing and various other *****.

That said, why not just do a new Superman animated series? We haven't had one since the 90s (not counting the Justice League shows) and that one gets overlooked by a lot of people who treat it like its just the little brother of BTAS, so why not carve out a completely separate Superman series for a new a generation? They could even test out the concept as one of those DC Nation shorts before trying starting serious production on a series. You think they'd be trying to get a series off the ground anyway with The Man of Steel coming out in 2013.

I have seen that lesser known villains will be portayed in this series and its said that the creators believe too many joker stories have been told, but does anyone know if the riddler, penguin, freeze, etc will be used in the series?

Yeah, they are going to use characters like Joker, Penguin and so forth, but they want to bring in new villains as well.

Guys the point is that Batman = money. So they are going to milk this cow for all it's worth.

It is smart to always have a cartoon or a new cartoon on to coincide with a movie as well. The Batman came out close to Batman Begins. Brave and The Bold started not long after The Dark Knight. So now we have a huge new movie this year so they want a new series as well. It's all about synergy.

I'm anxious to see a new show with a darker and more serious tone. Still the design we saw for Batman, well I need to see it in action more. I'm not happy about the CG animation. I'm still pretty disappointed with how Green Lantern turned out. Hopefully this will look better at least.

Not sure I like the art style. At all. Mainly the heads. By messing around with Batman's silhouette too much you lose a lot of atmosphere and the silhouette is a part of his personality.

I wouldn't judge an early show promo too soon...

After all, fans were outraged when this was the first released image from Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Am I a weird breed because I was actually excited for B&tB when I first saw that?

The main reason there is a five year turnaround on the Batman cartoons is that the idea is that the kids that started watching the show at the beginning are now five years older and into girls and sports, not cartoons, so it's now time to hook the next generation. Old farts like us that watch them all are considered the exceptions.

What I mean is how the shows, no matter how popular, have a limited life span with the next iteration already in the works. Just BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-onto the next one.

Well yes... thats certainly the case for Batman animation. But then again, its remarkable that the Bruce Timm/Kevin Conroy Bats lasted as long as he did.

Sadly Batman: The Brave and The Bold only had a 3 year life-span. At least The Batman had it's episodes spread out over a 5 year period AND got a DTV movie.

While the casting of Kurtwood Smith as Gordon is an interesting one I have to admit I am not excited for this series at all. Synergy be damned, there's been so much Batman over the years that he's just not as much fun to watch as he used to be. There's only so much you can do with Gotham before the thrill is gone.

Tell that to 70+ years of comic books...
