Shame knocked me in the stomach, in a good way – thought it was fantastic! I'll be there for this one for sure. I love great feel-bad movies about not-so-easy subjects.

Yea Shame was really uncomfortable to watch... but i couldn't tear my eyes away from it. Although there was some funny moments in it to break up the stifling sense of torment.

I think some actors once they make it big in Hollywood do not want to do indie flicks.

Tell that to Brad Pitt or George Clooney. Or Ryan Gosling for that matter.

Is there an engaging story here? It sounds like a monotonous litany of suffering and degradation unenlivened by any adventure, personality, or narrative exuberance.

Great addition to the cast.

Its funny Cumberbatch is playing a slave owner because he played 18th century British Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger in Amazing Grace who tried to abolish the slave trade and emancipate black people.

I did say some actors. But I agree Depp should do indie flicks again, seems he lost that passion to act.

P.S would Drive count as an indie flick? Just curious.

Drive is completely indie.

Though I'll admit that the term 'indie' is overly used and misused but yes, Drive is the real indie deal.

Drive is indie it was a low budget movie made and disturbuted by none major movie studios.

Depp did The Rum Diary movie which was an indie movie despite having a 50 million budget which was because Depp get can get that kind of money for a movie these days.

You've seen Shame and Hunger? If you didn't like those two, the chances are big you shouldn't be bothered with this one.

McQueens movies are not meant to be even close to adventure or having an exuberant narrative for that matter. Different kinds of very personal suffering are central part of his stories. It's not meant to make you thrilled.

Except for Ruth Negga (who I know nothing except that she's British) and Adepero Oduye (although I hear she's fantastic in Pariah), this film has an excellent cast. Also, it was only a matter of time that Negga and Cumberbatch were going to play Americans, which seems to be a rule for Brits and Aussie Actors in Hollywood projects, much like the film's lead Chiwetel Ejiofor and Fassbender.

Now it needs Hiddleston in it to compleate the long silly name trio....

Ruth Negga is Ethiopian/Irish. She is a really good actress.

She is mutant cow horror movie Isolation with Prometheus actor Sean Harris (which is actually a better movie than it sounds)

She also played a teleporter in superpower show Misfits and a young Shirley Bassy in a BBC TV movie about her.

Negga also played Samuel L Jacksons love intrest in the The Samaritan.

I completely agree, he is there with Neil Bloomkamp and Duncan Jones, as new directors I can see becoming the next big thing. I definitely think he has a lot of potential and he's clearly great at directing actors

Although I know nothing about Ruth Negga or who she is I can confirm that Adepero Oduye is brilliant in Pariah. She gives ever nuanced, layered, and subtle performance and quite frankly I think she was snubbed of an oscar nomination. If she keeps getting roles like Pariah she can definitely be an acting heavyweight in the near future

This cast does sound killer though...but its kind of funny that so often we see two similar movies released a year. This summer it was Mirror,Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman...and I guess fall its 12 years a slave and Django Unchained. I'm looking forward to both anyhow

Hot damn, Garret Dillahunt! This might have the best cast of 2013.

And yes, Adepero Oduye was phenomenal in Pariah. Everyone in this cast is just f***ing awesome.

Paul Giamatti & Sarah Paulson Join Steve McQueen's Latest
Quote:
Helmer Steve McQueen continues to fill out the ensemble of his drama "Twelve Years a Slave," as Paul Giamatti and Sarah Paulson have joined the cast of the New Regency pic based on Solomon Northrup's 1853 nonfiction tome. Duo joins Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scoot McNairy and Ruth Negga.

Ejiofor stars as the book's author, a free man kidnapped and sold into slavery. Paulson will play Fassbender's jealous wife, while Giamatti will play Freeman, who takes possession of the slaves upon their arrival in New Orleans.

Can't go wrong with Giamatti. This cast is seriously good.
