He definitely could work as Balder.

Wouldn't he have to be, seeing as Donald's clothes fit Thor perfectly?

It would be interesting if Balder dies because Loki has become jealous of the attention he gets from Odin like he's a conquering hero returning home while Loki is virtually ignored. Wouldn't that set up a great scene of dramatic proportions between Loki and Odin.
Yes, yes, this is true. I just thought it would be neat since Liam didn't get cast as Thor if they cast him as Donald instead. It would be too cute to see the two brothers doing a movie together as well.

speaking of Height. I was comparing the Hasbro 6" movie Thor to the
6" movie Captain America SCALE wise Thor's taller by a foot! lol At least Hasbro has that detail down. update on the Sword (knot works a pain in the arse)

I hope that the film is given like a 200 million dollar budget so that they'll have more of a chance to really show on what Thor's part of the universe has to offer.

I'd love for this film to have a 200 million dollar budget and I think it should be 185 million at the very least.

Maybe it's because I've had an over 20 year obsession with The Phantom of the Opera musical, but I'm starting to think that maybe Tom Hiddleston could get some good ideas for the mindset of a fallen Loki by looking to the character of the Phantom as a source of inspiration. Overall, just like Loki, the Phantom does some pretty heinous things because of his isolation and the depth of fear and loathing others have for him because of things that were not of his choosing, namely his deformity. In Loki's case his deformity would be more metaphysical and the fact that he's a Frost Giant, the mortal enemies of Asgard.
Um...Christopher Reeves played Superman for 4 straight movies.

Ya but it wasn't consecutive years (1978, 1980, 1983 and 1987)

Plus Hugh Jackman beats CR as he played Wolverine in 5 straight movies, (albeit not for consecutive years).

My worry is that such a huge budget (a $50 million jump) would put too much pressure on the movie to perform. A $200 million budget would require a box-office of significantly over $500 million WW gross to be worth it. I'd go with a $180 million dollar budget for now.

That and I've never really read any of the comics. As I stated in other threads I only really read X-Men and Spider-man when I read comic books. The only thing i knew about Thor was that he was this Norse God Deity with a hammer.

Would it be too soon and too much to ask to see Thor command a battalion of Asgardian Warriors into battle for this film?

Nope, I think that would be awesome and THOR 2 is the perfect film for that to happen especially with the the whole "exploring other world" aspect of the movie.

My wish list includes Hela as a villain and a Valkyrie appearance. Failing that I'd like to see Baldur and maybe the Norns.

As far as the budget: I'd be willing to bet 150 million, since that's what MS outlined at the start of their MCU project for all their films (except for those yet-to-appear "smaller" films budgeted at 30 mil or so). Avengers and IM2 have been the only variant from that so far.

Hell yeah to Hela and a Valkyrie appearance for THOR 2, they would definately help it feel like an even mor legit Thor universe.

No sense at all, it's going to atleast have a 20 million dollar increase.

You know, I think that Liam Hemsworth would be a good choice for Balder as well.

I really hope it doesn't go above $180 million; it will put too much pressure on it to perform in the BO.

I wouldn't be suprised if it didn't get a budget increase considering the bulk of the design work, props and CGI templates are done.
The best part is that you can hint at the brother connection through resemblance but never actually say they are brothers.

I'm just curious though, what is the parentage of Balder and Thor? I know they share Odin as their biological father, but who are the mothers? Is Frigga Balder's mother and Thor has a different mother? If so, between Balder, Thor and Loki, Frigga is a vastly loving, compassionate, selfless woman for taking care of so many kids with different gene pools.
