He lost it after the events of Spider-Island if I remember correctly. They explain it in the Scarlet Spider issue #1.

I didn't feel like starting a whole new thread/poll so I'll just ask here instead.....
What series do you guys think is better: Venom or Scarlet Spider? It seems like there's a lot of people in love with the Kaine book but I think that Venom has been the better Spidey spin-off title. Just curious what everybody thinks...

It's terribly difficult for me to answer since I love those two books. SS is more fun with some nice development going on, Venom is more dramatic and gripping; you never know what horrors and tragedy Flash is going to experience next.
Both are some really quality books that offer some similar, but overall different things. I guess that's my long winded way of saying I don't know.

I much prefer Scarlet Spider. Venom has its moments (the issue where he goes after Jack O'Lantern solo while thinking about his father was excellent) but a lot of the time it feels like a shock value comic. Grim and violent at the cost of story. That, and the symbiote has lost its personality. Its purely a costume now, not a character.
Scarlet Spider had some of Kaine's dark personality, which I like, but it doesnt feel as over the top as Venom.

I know but I'm not really looking for comparisons, more of which what book you look forward to reading more than the other each month.

Then again, story coincidences are the fuel that comic books run on.

Remender made Betty like MJ, Flash like Peter and Jack O Lantern like Green Goblin without ever outright saying it in the stories or any interviews. The comparisons are left out there for the reader to figure out then they slap you right in the face. That Remender......he's a sly one.

I like both, but I feel both books have been put on "cruise control filler" mode until Minimum Carnage. They aren't bad, just kind of eh compared to earlier issues. I hope Minimum Carnage just blows me away...

I don't get that vibe at all. They're both in the middle of arcs and stories are progressing.

If I "had" to choose, I would pick Scarlet Spider as the better book because in all honesty, it's just more "fun" than Venom...
I love both books, and they've had their "ups & downs" moments... hopefully, we see the same level of excellence with Morbius...

It's great that after years of unsuccessful Spider-Man spin off titles, they're doing well again.

I agree. I was really enjoying the Venom title up until they did that event thing with the .2, .3, and .4. Unfortunately, I dropped the title and due to a low cash flow I haven't picked it back up. I really like Remender's writing but that book fell into the "I'm done with Marvel's overshipping and over pricing".

I know it is. I said that due to a low cash flow I had not picked it back up. It fell under the "over shipping" category during the .1 nonsense...which is why I dropped it.

Minimum Carnage is out today, and it was a really fun read.
Still a set up for the whole story, but Kaine interacting with Venom and Carnage was cool. The art is also fantastic.

Not digging 'Minimum Carnage' at all... The idea of SS and Venom taking on Carnage had awesome potential, but setting it in the always lame and dated microverse was a huge misstep. Can't wait until this mess is over and Kaine goes back to Houston.

I've always had a soft spot for the Microverse... dating all the way back to X-Mas 1978 when I got a ton of Micronaut toys and the following month in January 1979 when I picked up Micronauts #1 off the rack...

I'm up to issue 3 in this series and so far I really like it. I like most was expecting the resurrection of Ben Reilly and was a tad disappointed when I learned it was Kaine and that the red suit with the cool torn, blue tank top was not making a comeback.
Having made a start at getting into the series I've actually changed my mind. I think Kaine was the right way to go as he's so different from Peter Parker and in turn Ben Reilly (who was basically just Peter with dyed hair). It makes for a more complex and interesting character and I believe having Kaine's personal struggle from within gives the story much more depth than any story with Ben Reilly ever could. Now I've got to get on with issue 4.
