The numbers will probably decrease next week, but the fact that it premiered to almost double the audience than some of the **** they trotted out for the fall has to be a good sign.

I didn't watch last night because I had already seen the pilot when they put it up online. I'll definitely tune in next week though. Between this and Glee, I'm all set for musicals. *jazz hands*

8:00
NBC The Voice 5.6 16.08m
CBS How I Met Your Mother 4.0 9.99m
ABC The Bachelor 2.5 8.06m
FOX House 2.4 7.16m
CW Gossip Girl 0.6 1.28m

8:30
CBS 2 Broke Girls 4.3 11.42m

9:00
NBC The Voice 7.3 19.30m
CBS Two and a Half Men 4.2/10 12.90m
FOX Alcatraz 2.2 6.78m
ABC The Bachelor 2.6/6 8.43m
CW Hart Of Dixie 0.6 1.50m

9:30
CBS Mike & Molly 3.4/ 11.02m

10:00
NBC Smash (Series Premiere) 3.8 11.50m

CBS Hawaii Five-0 2.7 9.80m
ABC Castle 2.0 8.72m

Every show against NBC, except the Bachelor who stayed the same from last week, took a hit in the 18-49 demo.

Smash did well for a late timeslot, the 10pm slot doesn't usually have highly rated shows. There will likely be a decline, it could depend on what The Voice does but it looks like NBC will be competitive for the rest of the year on Monday nights. So if you were hesitant I would tune in, NBC will at least air all the episodes of the first season.

I actually thought it was pretty good. A bit too on-the-nose and heavy handed in its dialogue, but that's the way it always is with big-budgeted network dramas.

The selling point is the cast. Messing, Huston and Davenport bring a lot of personality to their roles. Also, seeing the behind the scenes of a musical build was great. Even little touches like them all being excited for a baseball number.

As for the two stars--McPhee and Tilly--it's too early to say. McPhee is prettier in a more traditional sense, but on a Broadway stage that matters less. And while impressively talented, McPhee is outshone by Tilly's powerhouse voice. Their characters were strangely the least developed of the pilot. So, I don't really have a strong opinion of them as of yet. Though on a small note, I hope Tilly dials it back in future episodes as her acting style is a little too Broadway for the TV camera at times.

And lastly the songs. Unlike another gleeful musical series, it's nice to see the original songs not sucking. The one at the end of the pilot and the baseball number were both very enjoyable.

I DVRed this last night but haven't watched it yet. I wasn't going to bother because it didn't seem like my type of show but then I saw a clip of Katharine doing that routine in the white dress and I was like, DAAAYYYYUUMMMMM.

Somewhere in a karaoke bar in Alabama... Taylor Hicks is flopping around on the floor like a dying fish, sobbing his eyes out.

Glad Ivy got it, but not what she did to get it.

Ignoring some cringe-inducing dialogue (mostly centered around the adoption drama, but let's not forget Ivy's sudden-dance buddies), I thought it was still pretty solid. Ivy deserves the role more, but they made me actually care about Katherine McPhee's character in this one and sad she lot the role. And she didn't debase herself. Oh well.

I really liked the scene between McPhee and Messing. I felt like everyone was basically ****ting on McPhee while heaping praise on Ivy, and Messing was just like "Nah, **** it" and hung back with McPhee instead. It was a nice character moment.

They need to change the actor who plays Debra Messing's son. I was cringing the whole time he was talking. I did feel bad for McPhee's character at the end. I'm sure Ivy doing the director will come up later in the season. I also kind of feel bad for the one assistant that Messing picks on. He seems geniunely excited about the musical and I don't think he means any harm. I wonder how McPhee's character will stay connected to the musical? I thought she would be the understudy or something but they never said anything.

Watch the preview for the next epsiode, it brings up some of those questions. I'm just confused about which girl we are suppose to be rooting for.

I don't think we're supposed to be rooting for anyone at this point of the show. NBC makes it seem like we should be rooting for Karen/McPhee, but the show is more ambiguous. Ivy is the experienced professional, while Karen is the underdog. People could relate to both and root for either.

I've enjoyed the first two eps, the show has a class to it. I thought the cover at the end of this weeks was better than the original version.

Yeah, the show is leaving things open for now although Ivy did sleep with the director, it didn't make it clear if that affected his choice. I naturally find myself rooting for Karen despite her smarmy boyfriend, plus I don't think looks-wise Ivy competes when it comes to Marylin apart from the obvious hair.

Loved McPhee's cover of Red Neck Woman. HATE Tom's assistant that little *****. Not too crazy about the new original song.

Smash took another hit in the ratings last night in the demo and total viewers.

Week One 3.8 11.5 million
Week Two 2.8 8.09 million
Week Three 2.4 6.47 million

And last night's episode was the weakest of the three so I it doesn't look good for Smash. And Spielberg is striking out in television of late.

The Pacific was nowhere near the success of Band of Brothers.
The River is performing bad with their 8 episode season and won't get get a second season.
Terra Nova debuted to disappointing numbers and is a toss up to return.

Eh. 6.4 million is still about as good as, or better than, about every other NBC premiere this season, with the exception of Up All Night. I mean, it does'nt look great, but given that some of the other trash NBC has premiered this season is still on the air, I'm not worried just yet.

Smash is doing Office numbers...which isn't that bad. If The Office can keep going then I think Smash can stick around.

It better stabilize they have 12 more episodes to air! The numbers are fine for NBC but a 40% drop in three weeks is never good.
Just given all the hype this show got, and it hasn't lived up to it, it doesn't look good.
It may stick around and come back next year as a mid-season show with a new storyline that can capture a decent audience.
