Furthermore, I wasn't saying that I didn't want to see the origin story again, I said that audiences might be apprehensive about seeing Spider-Man's origin for the second time in 10 years.
I wish Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer was just a stupid retcon, to me it even ruined the origin from the original movie. His origin is now a complete joke, and so is Spider-Man himself as a hero, for letting someone associated with Ben's death go scout free without a fight. The origin, Spider-Man as a character and the motif "With Great Power..." was ruined. That calls for a major reboot starting from point A.

Plus, people would have continued to call this movie a vague Spider-Man 4 film (like they did with Superman Returns). I love the origin being included, starting it over, so there's nothing anyone can say about this NOT being its own movie.

I'm with KAW on all points. Watching SM1s origin leaves a bad taste in my mouth because the guy Spider-Man attacked didn't even do what Peter was after him for...

I never had a problem with it. But that's just me.

How can you not? It cheapens the gravity of the scene between the "killer" and Peter...

"Please just give me a chance! Just give me a chance!"

"What about my uncle!? Did you give him a chance!? Did you!?"

That was os incredibly intense and just...awesome but now it's just like...

"lol he didn't even kill him idiot"

And instead, people will be bored waiting an hour before they get to see what they payed for.

If it weren't for the explicit contradiction of established continuity, there would actually be a lot of story potential in Peter having to deal with his entire raison d'être being invalidated and having to find a new purpose in life.

Yeah, maybe if the killer in SM1 even mentioned that he didn't kill anyone...but he doesn't. Maybe if Carradine explicitly said, "BUT I DIDN'T KILL ANYONE!" and Peter attacked him anyway. But even then it puts Peter in all sorts of trouble for not being responsible. No matter how pathetically you attempt to defend that AWFUL retcon, it ends badly.

For me, it's because I see Sandman killing Uncle Ben for what it is: A ******** retcon. And thus, I dismiss it.

As I said, it cheapens it. Spidey's origins needed to be retold for multiple reasons, but I've had this argument countless times and I'm not about to get into it again.

I said "it had potential". It wasn't explored in the slightest nor used for anything other than providing a reason for Peter to want to kill Sandman, but the potential for an interesting story is there.

Again, no they don't. Competition is something that has always happened between studios at the box office, it's nothing new, you talk as if it is. I've seen movies promoted for over a year, come out and flop.

I've seen Shrek 3, Pirates 3 and Spider-Man 3 all come out in weeks of each other. Every fanboy from the three films was saying which one will be crushed and have their money ripped from them. What ended up happening, they all made a ton of freakin' money...oh yeah...and they all sucked echoing ass!!!

I wasn't trying to start an argument. I was just stating my opinion.

I don't think anybody's saying that that scene wasn't done well, it was the retcon in Spider-Man 3 that ruins that scene in Spider-Man 1.

Precisely, I loved SM1's origin until that blasphemy occurred.

No it doesn't. I can easily ignore the retcon, and I do every time I watch Spider-Man.

Again, yes they do. You're telling me that "competition is something that has always happened between studios at the box office, it's nothing new"... yet you fail to see how these 3 movies will be competing against each other?

It's obvious that all 3 of these movies are going to make a ****LOAD of money. Especially TDKR and TASM. We're talking about which movie will make the most.

Because all 3 of those movies are comic book movies.

What? I don't know about any of you guys, but I'll be paying to see the start of a new Spider-Man franchise. I'm not seeing this movie for 2 hours of Spider-Man kicking ass.

If I wanted 2 hours of ass kicking, I'd just watch a mindless action flick. I want to be immersed in a story, and I can't get that without a proper character set up. Leaving the origin out would take me out of the story completely.

Yeah. I feel like me and SpiderManHero 12 are the only people here that really love Spider-Man 3.

To me, Sandman and his story were too underdeveloped to be worth the time it occupied in a film that was too stuffed for its own good. I would have much rather his screen-time gone to developing either the Peter/Harry rivalry or the Symbiote arc and/or Venom.
