I wouldn't go as far as saying he's a dick because of this, but there's just something about it that rubs me the wrong way.

And that's fine. But I've read some stupid responses on his Twitter by what are, of course, whining nerds...

PRECISELY. If he donates the millions of dollars he made for KA2, then it isn't. But if he keeps the money he's just a douche.

You know what I was thinking about instead? It seems like the movie got finished recently, so he probably came to that conclusion after attending a recent screening. He also is/was a fan of the original Kick-ass, and that movie, while violent, is also satirical, and quite critical of the behaviour of the character. Matt Vaughn is, of course, a director who knows his stuff.
In comes Jeff Wadlow, and I've been saying since the first trailers hit that this looks to be kind of bland compared to the first on; it's possible that he had a change of heart as the violence appeared to be for violence's sake, and as a shock factor. Could be. Wadlow is no Matthew Vaughn. This DOES look like a more straight-up shoot em up, with out the heart of the first one. |

Sandy Hook happened last December. Carrey finished his filming in November. After months of him being very vocal about gun violence, it's only logical that this reaction is due to his seeing the movie very recently. Reading about how graphic a few scenes are in a script is different from seeing the director's vision on film. Especially with the neighborhood scene where a lot of kids get shot. Millar said that EVERY controversial scene from the comic is in the movie. |

I don't think hes being a douche or a jerk or anything. Anyone who says he is just needs to stop. He never said the movie is bad or that he's embarassed. Just that its very violent and Sandy Hook changed his way of looking at violence like it did many many many people

I in no way would ever try to diminish or dismiss the gravity of the events that happened at Sandy Hook but I'll never understand wtf it has to do with Kick Ass 2. It changed people's way of thinking? That's stupid. It didn't change people's way of thinking after Columbine? Virginia Tech? Or any of the thousands of other similar stories that you never really hear about. To just start connecting any work of fiction to a tragedy like that is just wrong. Furthermore, any actor or artist that would denounce a work of art is just a douche period. Regardless of the circumstances to just straight say you denounce it? Get the **** outta here! This has to be publicity, it's just way too douchey of a thing to do

What, he's not allowed to have a change of heart? Says who? Who are you to judge what does or doesn't affect someone's outlook?
Jim Carrey is a grandfather now. If Sandy Hook affected him emotionally because of how it rings close to home he wouldn't be the first. Same thing happened to me. I sold off my last two pistols this January. This isn't new. He's been very vocal about gun control policy reform since January of this year. A month after Sandy Hook. Two months after he wrapped filming KA2. Common sense dictates that he's had a change of heart and doesn't want to go around for the next two months promoting the movie (promo circuit starts next week) if he doesn't like what the finished product is. |

Millar's statement about it just screams ignorance and douchery. He just doesn't understand plain and simple. And if you don't understand than don't open your mouth publicly

Yeah, I didn't find anything douchey about what Millar tweeted at all... and considering how often I find him to be a douche, that's saying something.

Carrey just wants out of the promotion for honest reasons, Millar's telling everyone what they already know (it's fiction!) and the internet and media is only interested in making a big huge deal out of nothing, as usual.
Meh.

Jim Carrey doesn't want to promote Kick-Ass 2...
...yet this is getting the movie kind of some publicity.

All right, Millar is officially the douche bag and Carrey is the one who's right. I don't see any reason why they'd need to include that part especially after what happened. That scene didn't impact the story at all. I'm usually the guy questioning why a film deletes something after a tragedy suddenly and don't believe media violence causes violence. But, to keep that scene after what has happened? I wouldn't agree to that. Also Carrey seeing a cut of the film and seeing that scene, yeah you can see why he posted that. It would be really hard to watch, especially even more so if they filmed it just as a quick gag.

If that's an actual scene in the comics, there's NO WAY it's being used, no matter what Millar says. No movie studio is going to stare into the eye of that inevitable storm.

I also wonder if that scene will make the cut, red mist was much less sadist in the films than he was in the comics.

I doubt it was removed. Aside from seeing glimpses of that scene in the trailer, there's this quote from Millar himself:
"Every horrible scene in the book will be in the film. The c*** line in the first one, everybody said ‘there’s no way you’re getting that in the movie’, but it happened and it’s the same thing with this. Everybody is saying ‘you can’t have a gang rape scene with supervillains’ and ‘you can’t have the dog’s head cut off,’ but every single one of those scenes will go in it." Millar is running the show with this movie. Vaughn left and they got a pinch hitter to direct under his guidance. Uni just held their cast/crew screening of the final cut of the movie. That's probably what caused Carrey to take his stance. I'm not going to link the images here from the comics because they're very graphic but if you go to http://multiversitycomics.com/ and search Violence in Comics there's a breakdown of two of the most brutal scenes from KA2 that Millar says will be in the movie. Given Millar's history of talking out of his a**, I'll believe the actors over him when they say certain things have been removed.

I agree with you regarding Millar's way of talking, but I don't recall any actors saying those scenes were removed. Christopher Mintz-Plasse said it was down played (he even sounded relieved, "thank god") but not removed completely. I could be mistaken, but I don't remember anyone else being directly asked about those scenes. And this close to release I don't think anyone will.
