I watched the first last night and found it hasn't held up so well. I didn't hate this one but had a feeling some will feel like you. I did have low expectations.

Interesting to hear that you didn't like Chloe, though. And thought Night B**** was a highlight. That was definitely unexpected.
She had bad dialogue and dumb character development. She couldn't do anything with the role if she tried (but it didn't feel like she did even that). I don't understand how they could have gone so wrong with it. Less violence? Hardly any Hit-Girl action? Abysmal music? HORRIBLE effects? WHY does that sound like a good idea to anyone? I had low expectations and even those were crapped on. They even disregarded plot points and character bits from the first so this story would make sense. It's the first movie I've seen in theaters this year that I'm actually telling my friends not to see.

Did you read the comic? If so, was her character development much different from that? Of course, I knew it wouldn't have my favorite aspect from the comics the part where we learn she still has "conversations" with Big Daddy when she's alone, but I generally liked her storyline in that. *shrug*

The "less violence" thing was expected by me since this one was being made by a major studio. And well, we've had our complaints about the crappy green screen effects from the trailers, so that's not exactly surprising to hear either. I feel like my expectations are appropriately set at this point.

It needed more colonel stars and stripes and Dr. Gravity. I enjoyed them. But man that cgi blood. Why do film makers think it's a good idea?

Nope that's not in it. She stops being Hit-Girl about 15 minutes into it and tries to be a normal high school kid. Then she befriends these Mean Girls wannabes and gets sexually frustrated by a One Direction music video and goes on a bad date. Then turns back into Hit-girl at the end of the movie. Not sure if that's in the book.

I read the comic a while ago but honestly can't remember much of it. I thought it was garbage, and hoped the film makers would have done similar changes to this movie like those that were done with the first.

the Justice Forever stuff was the only aspect of this movie that carried the tone, feel and fun of the first movie. Everything else I found to be completely hamfisted and forced. Worst part for me was that Christopher kid who plays the main villain. Holy god he was awful.

And I really liked John Leguizamo. He should get more work. And now that I think of it Hit Girl had only 2 scenes. Kinda surprising when she's the fan favorite.

I liked a lot of movies this year. This summer my favorites were Wolverine, 2 Guns, The World's End, White House Down, Fast 6, Iron Man 3, World War Z and Monsters U. But the majority of the big blockbusters and even my most anticipated ones were huge disappointments

Didn't you also like The Lone Ranger? Unless you've already forgotten about it.

I agree the KA2 comic was garbage, but I liked the Hit-Girl comic. And yeah, the "Mean Girls" subplot was in it...well, minus the One Direction bit, but it seemed like a natural development/struggle for her in that.

Only 2 scenes for Hit-Girl though? Damn. Question: Is the part where thugs come to Marcus' house to threaten his "family" and end up being massacred by Mindy in there? I loved that part.

Nope

EDIT: technically there are three Hit-Girl scenes but one is a dream sequence at the school and for me it was the worst choreographed one of the lot

Only two scene's with Hit Girl? My entire enjoyment of the first film was watching this kid kicking arse and killing people. Although the novelty will probably have worn off given Chloe is fully grown in this new film.

Bummer. Well at least now I'm prepared.

And yeah, I've been kind of dreading that dream sequence scene since the trailer. It's looked stupid from the get-go.

I was surprised when it looked like they were going to follow through with one of the more ugly scenes from the comic. But then they played it for laughs. Kind of a messed up joke though.

The biggest thing people should prepare themselves for is the 180 degree tonal shift. That seems to be what all the people at my screening I spoke with didn't like. The first film is a straight up satire of all the classic superhero tropes. This movie is an unabashed superhero sequel. It has scenes that outright renege thematic stuff utlized in the first movie. It's basically a low budget film featuring Mark Millar dialogue/story structure without any Mark Millar shock value or uber-violence.

How was the training stuff with Kick-Ass and Hit Girl? Does she have him practice crashing through windows and getting his ass kicked by the mob like in the books?

How about Colonel Stars death or the attack on Katie's neighborhood, how much of those scenes were toned down?

The training stuff was good but really quick. 3 minutes or so in montage format. They have a gang fight scenario but not like the comics from what i recall.

They toned both down a lot. There's much less violence in the movie compared to the first and what they do have looks fake (CG blood splatter, CG knife wounds, etc)

Wait they toned down the violence? Is this still rated the same as the previous film?
