Well, it coincides without with how the original mini-series ended.

The thing that made Kick-Ass work so well was that it was a teen comedy and an examination of the psyche of a nerd before anything else, the push that got the ball rolling was just the idea of them having the power to forefill their fantasies. Notice not one person in the film tried to be a superhero because they were sane. Big Daddy was a psychotic ex cop, Hit-Girl was the product of Big Daddies parenting, Kick-Ass was a loner who craved the feeling of power, and Red Mist was the son of a mobster who desperately wanted attention. Dave even directly compares himself to a serial killer when he says "like any serial killer would tell you, eventually fantasizing just doesn't do it for you anymore" Each one was real all while satirizing a popular superhero archetype.

Kick-Ass= the Peter Parker
Big Daddy= the Bruce Wayne
Hit-Girl= Robin
Red Mist= Harry Osborne

It was great because it respectfully satirized the genre by showing just how ridiculous it would be in a real world setting. Yeah it got over the top and fantastic by the end but Vaughn used the cartoon like character Big Daddy (Who is made acceptable as he is played by a real life cartoon like man) and by having a villain type that appears often in comics as well as real life. Kick-Ass 2 however just tries to make a superhero fantasy that lacks the realism and ironic charm the previous film had. Even the satire is directly targeted at comic book fanboys with the "I hate reboots shirt", the "Alfred to my evil Bruce Wayne", and "Robin wishes he was me" quips.

Idk overall it spent the entire run time chasing the dragon instead of trying to stand on it's own.

Didn't realize there was a Thread for Kick-Ass2 already... my bad. =(

Just saw Kick-Ass 2 last night... and it was good sequel, not great. I had a lot of fun with and enjoyed it but it felt like something was missing. Not sure what... it felt like they just thought of what would be cool and take it to the extreme and call it a movie.Though it's always enjoyable to see Chloe dress up as Hit-Girl again!

Wow for a comic I don't particularly follow this was a damn good sequel and dare I say it better than The Wolverine but I felt it was more about Hit-Girl than Kick-Ass was was ok I guess there always a Kick-Ass 3.

The comedy and action was evenly balanced and didn't feel forced, don't know how much of the van chase was real and bluescreen but it was great stuff.

I must say I've seen Lindy Booth in other films before that I didn't recognize her at first but wow did she turn out hot and she seemed a bit taller but maybe it was the bots she was wearing.

Is it against the development of her character in the first film? Yes.

Is the scene hilarious in this movie? Yes.

I thought it worked much better than what they did to Marty in this movie.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't a massive fan of the first one, but I liked it. Moretz seemed more comfortable in the role this time around.

I guess I always found Katie a little sketchy even in the first one, so I totally bought her flippant turn here. I admit it could be the comics' version of her clouding my perception though. Oh well, it didn't bother me at all, regardless.

I honestly don't think I've seen Lindy Booth in anything else since I used to watch The Famous Jett Jackson on the Disney Channel as a tween, lol.

The problems I had were:

1.) The tone. The most common criticism I've seen leveled at this movie is definitely one I agree with. This is a VERY tonally uneven film.

2.) The resolution of the "Mean Girls" plot. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED this storyline. I think it's the biggest contributor to giving this film its soul. But the resolution is the one time in which I felt they would have been much better off sticking with Millar's version. Because Wadlow's take was both less satisfying and a little too juvenile even for this series. Just didn't quite cut it.

3.) Todd. You guys were right - WTF was that?

4.) It did get a little cheesy at times when it bought into the genre conventions at moments where I felt like the first one would have cut through them.

Those were really my only major problems. The action was good. I was fine with "less Hit-Girl" because it meant we got more Mindy, and thus Chloe Moretz was the MVP of the film again for different reasons. She was bound and determined to make Mindy more fully fleshed-out character this go-round, like an actual person, even in the moments when her material veered more toward the cheesy side, and I respect the hell outta that performance. Very well done, imo. Of course, it was still fun seeing her kick ass too, even if I would have loved to see a little more gunplay from her this time. But I guess we got plenty of that in the previous installment, so the change to more hand-to-hand stuff was refreshing too.

I also liked the changed ending, and it made me hope for a sequel, even though that's looking even more unlikely than this one was, considering the disappointing early box office numbers. Anyhoo, Wadlow is certainly no Vaughn, but he did a decent enough job on this, and I don't think it's remotely deserving of that RT score. I'd probably give it about a 7/10 on first viewing, and I'm definitely planning to see it one or two more times before it leaves theaters.
I too thought the movie had a lot of heart. Sorry, maybe it's the girl in me, but I actually got a lump in my throat when Dave went to comfort Mindy after what had happened to her on her first date.

I liked most of the movie. There was something missing to it, but I'm not sure what exactly it was. I'm gearing towards that there just wasn't an epic fight scene like in the first movie (Hitgirl rescuing Big Daddy was one of the most epic fight scenes in movie history, period, for me) And, I was noticing the movie was toned down all across the board. But of course, my biggest complaint, the freaking shaky cam during the action scenes. When will this trend die?

The movie was absolutely terrible! It looked like something of the rank of Epic Movie.

After the amazing first movie this one is just a monstrosity!

Just saw it, me and all of my friends enjoyed/loved it. Very good sequel. Had plenty of action and tender moments along with plenty of comedy.

Sure it had some faults but nothing major. Wouldve been nice if Lindsays character got some resolution instead of having her character disappear after thinking her boyfriend cheated on her with a 15 year old.

And it was a little awkward to have an attempted rape scene only to have it get turned out into a funny moment because he couldn't get it up.

It also didn't make sense for Todd to go over to the "dark" side after it was already all over the news of these people murdering all these people. Did he not watch the news/read the blogs or anything of what was going on? It seemed like they just needed someway for Kick Asses identity to get revealed and couldn't come up with a cleaver enough way to do it.

Has no one mentioned how weird it is that Dave is still in high school by the time Mindy gets there? Bit of comicbook time displacement going on

I wouldnt say it was quite that bad overall but there were a couple moments where it headed into this territory, the bad cgi poop scene and "One Direction" scene were good examples of this.

What exactly was wrong with the Union J scene? I completely get the complaints about the cafeteria scene, but not the Union J scene. It works in context of the film, and while a little over the top, far from tasteless like the cafeteria scene.

It also reminded me of a scene from Bob's Burgers and that is never a bad thing.

The problem with the Mindy plot is that it is a girls story. I guess it's not so great for a male to watch a naked boyband...

That is an extremely interesting thought considering the film. Especially considering how many have rushed to label the film misogynistic. I wonder how many had a problem with NB's outfit or the pool scene.

It wasnt so much that it was tasteless just a bit OTT like you said, it was more the scene as whole felt like a bad teen movie, maybe that was the aim but it was at odds with other moments in the film. I think that was my biggest problem with the film it was sort of all over the place in terms of tone and direction. In one place you have them trying to humanise hit-girl as a teen getting her first "crush" then the next you have Mother Russia killing people with her thighs.

Man I had forgotten about that one, they were two of ugliest women I have ever seen, I thought they were men to start with Nothing particularly wrong with the scene but damn they were not pretty ladies, maybe that was the point I dont know but even so.

In the fairness to the movie the Union J scene happened before Chris assembled his supervillian team. At a time where the major characters are trying to find their place in the "movie world".

After that the tone went back to a darker one.

Yea and I also thought it was weird to have Mindy kiss Dave at the end. It's even more creepy when you think about the fact that Chole is only like 16 in real life and Aaron is in his early or mid 20's I think.

It's a movie and they are both supposed to be in High School. There is a time displacement thing goen on but it makes sense that Mindy would like him. She doesn't like anyone else. And after that scene in the woods I don't think she's gonna trust alot of other people for quite some time.

I thought that scene was too over-the-top even for this movie. I didn't think it was funny at all. The lead up to it, Mindy's speech, was too awkward, and the effects just didn't look real to me.
