I'm surprised at how much I' looking forward to this, as I'm also surprised at the amount of improvement going on. It looks. . . like a perfection in improvement. That almost never happens.

They were far better off with their previous release date.
This film could very well do worse that the first because of that fact alone.

I would've never guessed the guy behind Step Up and the freakin Justin Bieber movie was gonna do a follow up to GI Joe and that the first look would be this good. Good for him, I hope the actual movie delivers.

To each his own, to me the very reduced budget shows. I can't see one major summer action spectacle sequence that I haven't seen before in it. The only scene that looks like it hasn't been done before is the fight on the mountain. Everything else looks just... recycled to me. Kinda why I hope Bruce Willis has more than one scene in it - that would be the saving grace of the film to me.

It also had to do with the fact that Sommers uses A LOT of regular CGI. Just look at Van Helsing.

CGI is not what I'm commenting on. It's the fact that every action scene or rather the whole movie looks like I've seen it before. There's literally nothing new to me beside the mountain scene. That's why it doesn't grab my interest. It just looks like I've seen it before. Story. Action. Everything.

This actually looks pretty good, and up until now I had no interest in this at all.

No no, I understood what you meant. I was just pointing out that the extreme use of CGI is a trademark of Sommers' movies.

I've seen all that before too, but I don't watch an action movie from a toy collection because is gonna make a revolution in story or action. In fact, I like this kind of movies just because of what that trailer showed.
If it CAN show something new, the better! But I'm happy for what it (apparently) is.

I didn't expect it to be revolutionary. I just wanted to see at the very least action scenes I haven't seen before. It looks like a February or March level film to me. It has the kind of effect the Contraband trailer had on me. For all we know, it could be a good movie - it just looks like everything else. Which after every other summer trailer out there that does show something different? It just sticks out a lot.

Say what you want about the first movie. As a general audience member I found it enjoyable and a fun ride because it didn't take itself too seriously and showed us things we've never seen before. Still based on the same property, just that film showed us things that weren't done before.

That statement was kind of board-wide.

----

Plus, I think the general audience may have the same reaction I did.

1) Looks like everything else except for the snow mountain scene (summer movie crowd).
2) Hoping Bruce Willis is in it a lot more and not just a one-scene cameo. It's suspicious.
3) "This is a sequel to the movie with underwater fortresses and zany effects, right? What happened?"

I mean, look at Mission Impossible for example - we've seen it before, we've seen the characters before, it's still grounded in action-movie realism BUT it shows us things we haven't seen before. That makes it stand out.

And that reaction for a film coming out a week after 'Brave' and 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' (I've read the script) and before 'Spider-Man' and 'Batman'? They had to have showed us something bold and new. And they just showed us a regular action film with a questionable Bruce Willis scene very reminiscent of how 'The Expendables' was marketed. It just seemed more late Augusty to me.

I'm not that familiar with GI Joe's mythology, besides some of the basic characters.

What other characters could be a sequel? And is Roadblock a major leading character in the comics/ cartoons?

I thought the first movie was ok. Honestly, had zero expectations for this, but the trailer has drawn me in. I wasn't even aware, that Bruce Willis was involved with the film until I saw the trailer.

I think this looks ok. I love that Cobra Commander looks faithful. Finally. Cus what we got in the first film was unbelievable.

Very pleasantly surprised, I thought the first movie was garbage but this looks MUCH better in my view, lots of badass action and Cobra looking awesome plus Snake Eyes vs The Red Ninjas!

Did any one else catch James Carville in the trailer? Between this, The Muppets, Jesse James and 30 Rock, he's been making some pretty awesome appearances lately.

Mostly "meh" on the trailer, looks kinda cheap and not overly exciting.

Did Duke die? Only two shots in the whole trailer.

That's what everyone is speculating. Looks like four Joes against Cobra...and Duke doesn't appear to be one of them.

Of course, trailers can be pretty misleading.

Nothing we haven't seen before, except that one thing we haven't seen before. Yeah.

So from the trailer it looks this film is following the animated series Renegades plot-line. Anyone else think so?

I thought that too. But the first movie did set that up. The President being an impostor, it makes sense that he would turn the military on them
