I feel like this edition will be an all out sweep for the Avenger side. Simple math: huge mainstream crossover + 2 of these 4 characters later appearing in major Marvel films in Summer 2012 = sorry, X-Men.

That said, it's nice to see that Gambit's getting a match up with a prime Marvel name. It's been years (decades?) since they've let him battle an A-Lister that wasn't an X-Men first character. As long as they don't just let Cap beat him up handily it should be fun. Two very different breeds of hero. And hey, always the small chance the writers decide an upset is in order.

The confirm fights fights so far in the "Vs tie-ends"

Issue 1
Iron Man Vs. Magneto - Thing Vs. Namor

Issue 2
Spiderman vs Colossus - Captain America Vs. Gambit

Issue 3
Black Widow vs. Magik - Colossus vs. Thing

Looks like Namor loses in issue #1 since Thing is fighting Colossus in issue #3. Which means Spidey loses to Colossus in issue #2.

plenty of talk in the main Marvel forum. I loved it. I think Im about the only person that supports Scott and thinks the Avengers need to buzz off...lol

I really liked the issue. Have to say I'm totally on Scott's side but I agree with Emma. It has to be Hope's choice, that could cost Scott later in the series. Loved the bit Cyclops blasted Captain America and the Hellicarrier scene gave me chills.

Probably to ensure that the X-Men look like the underdogs.

Well they certainly were in those last few panels. The X-Mens ranks are week, scattered all over the country.

And Havok83 - haha I totally ran right over to the marvel forums after I posted my comment and of course saw all the talk/debate.

My hope, as I can fully express on the X-Men boards, is that the X-kids will get FaceTime and their chance to shine. But did I see the likes of Surge, Pixie, Mercury, and others Shackled on a cover of Avengers Academy? Looks like the only non-main-event-issue (besides WatXM as I read that one ongoing) that I'll have to be picking up.

Namor and Magneto are pretty powerful themselves. Mags alone could be a handful for 4 or 5 Avengers even though they make him to be an old man these days that can't keep up.

Haha, it looks that way from that page. Goen up against that many Avengers without other mutant back up is probably not the best idea.

Thought for a second that certain X Men may side with the Avengers and maybe they didnt want to spoil it right away. Havnt really been keeping up with other X titles besides X force and Wolv and X Men so thought i may have missed something with the other X mens perspective. Seems thats just getting started though.

So where does Thor stand? BP is her husband. Is she gonna be nonpartisan? I saw her going up against Thor on the cover.

I've always wanted to see them fight!

Just thinking depending on what it is made with wouldn't Magneto be able to at least do some damage to the Helicarrier?

He should be able to snap it in half. He wont though as they would take that as a definite declaration of war

You would think the helicarrier has a defense for magnetic powers to prevent something like that but then you recall all the times it's been destroyed for dramatic effect.

I doubt they would have Mags actually do that anyway because it would take the focus off Hope and put it on him screwing up the story they're trying to tell.
