Two of the directors from Game of Thrones are the only director's on Marvel's shortlist for directors at the moment.

I don't think Besson even directs movies anymore. He seems to just want to be a producer.

Do yourself a favour and watch Leon: The professional.
Natalie Portman, Gary Oldman and Jean Reno are awesome in it

He directed a couple of animated kids movies in the last few years, but he is back doing real movies. this year he made The Lady with Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. Also, he did the screenplay for Colombiana which was originally planned as a sequel to The Professional

Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) is mentioned as the front-runner that Marvel is likely to tap to direct Thor 2.

What I like about Marvel is that they can turn unknowns into well-recognized people. They saved RDJ's career, and started Hemsworth's. Looks like Taylor will be next

I would have to research and rewatch their respective efforts. I honestly can't say, since I don't recall anything specific about any of the television episodes either has directed that help me distinguish one from the other. Both have directed shows I like, and both have directed shows I don't.

*If* there's any substance to the Luc Besson rumor, then Natalie might very well be the reason they're approaching him. They might figure that they can mollify her by giving her a director she's worked with in the past. Dunno if that's the story, and I certainly don't know that the strategy would work to satisfy Natalie's disappointment over the Jenkins sacking, but I guess it's worth a shot.

No way either of those guys would come near this studio. Not to mention, the studio wouldn't want people that creative working on one of their films anyway.

They already turned down Vaughn for Thor 1.

Yeah as much as I'd like to see vaughn on Thor he HAD his chance and couldn't do what was asked.

Its actually the other way around. Vaughn walked away because he figured out the studio wanted to make a popcorn movie. Vaughn doesn't make those.

X-Men First Class was insanely rushed, I agree.

The first half wasn't bad, showed promise and tried to be a) different, b) a hommage to 60ies Bond movies c) an Inglorious Basterds follow up.
The second half was an awful mess with bad teenager actors, inconsistent acting and an even more formulaic plot than the Final Destination movies. The editing felt rushed too and made the last 20 minutes unwatchable.

But the first half: Not bad indeed.

No, he made a real movie. You know, those kinds of films in which the focus is to tell the story rather than fill seats? You know, the kind that isn't concerned about selling IMAX 3D tickets so instead chooses to rely on its storytelling to find its audience? You know, the kind that wasn't made to blend in with the other 30 popcorn CBMs but rather to help the genre grow and come to be respected more?

That's what Vaughn made.

Yep, and that insanely rushed film ended up being 10 times better than Thor. So, I don't know about you, but doesn't that make the people (studio) responsible for Thor seem a little incompetent?

Thankfully just to you a the few other naysayers around here. I'm glad the majority thought differently in this case.

As a die-hard X-MEN fan who loves X-MEN, X2, and XM:FC I can safely say that the latter is not 10x better than THOR which was a damn fine movie. I don't know a single real person at the University where I work who rates it less than an 8/10.
