Love the new trailer. Looks just as much fun as HAIRSPRAY was.
Which one are you looking forward to the most, this or Les Mis?

Well, I've seen ROA on Broadway 100+ times, and Les Miz only once. Love both, but I generally favor musical comedies.

Now that's fanatical right there! Since I've never seen ROA on the stage, do you think the movie captures the spirits and essences of the musical accurately?

There's a lot that seems to be different, but different in an ROA sence, if that makes sence. . .

I did read an early draft of the script and the same humor is definitely there. Plus with Justin Theroux being one of the writers, I'm confident it will be hilarious.

What I loves about HAIRSPRAY was that outside if the music number, it really was a smartly funny movie. The jokes all landed where they needed to. I hope the same for this.

Damn! And I thought the 38 times I saw Rent were a lot.

I've only seen ROA once, but it was awesome. I still need to get my sister to see it before the movie opens.

It's hit and miss with the current cast right now, to be honest. But, I still love it. And I hope I love this film!

New poster. A little too photoshopped for my taste...

Someone else on IMDB who saw a prescreening
Quote:
I saw this a few weeks ago before the final edit was done, and it really pushes the envelope as to the PG-13 rating. The language, sexual situations, and drug and alcohol use could very well cause the MPAA to give the film a R rating.

I loved it!! I found myself smiling for 2 straight hours and wanting to sing along to every single song! I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan, so I was a bit skeptical going in, but I can't imagine anyone else playing Stacee Jaxx, he was great. The casting was fantastic all around, and I can't wait to get the soundtrack. So going to see this again on June 15 when it opens! (I will buy the DVD too!) I hope you enjoy it as much as we did in the pre screening!

Following the footage, Rock Of Ages director Adam Shankman was a little perplexed. “I just watched that and I wanted to say, ‘You ****er, that’s some badass ****!’”. As for his own film, which opens June 15, Shankman said he went to New Line and Warners and said “I want to make a movie I haven’t seen before. I want to make a movie with Tom Cruise in ass-less chaps. When I saw the play on Broadway I was stunned because every straight man there knew all the lyrics to every song”. The footage, mostly what’s in the trailer, was very well received. I have seen the whole film and it delivers. Cruise could even find himself with a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. He dominates every scene he’s in as veteran (off his) rocker Stacey Jaxx.

They may as well go all out and give it a light R.

Well, they do want to make a profit. Sweeny Todd barely survived its R rating.

It's funny... this film probably wouldn't interest me all that much (not really familiar with the show, though I do like plenty of the songs) but I'm really intrigued to see Cruise as a hair metal rock god. Cruise is one of those classic movie stars that stays in his comfort zone most of the time because he knows that's what the majority of his fans want to see, but he can be phenomenal when he steps out of it (Magnolia, Tropic Thunder, Collateral).

It was to be played during the opening credits sequence in one of the original drafts, but now it appears it was replaced by Paradise City.

Also, the film is getting an IMAX release.

Partnering yet again with Warner Bros. Pictures, the giant screen exhibitor will screen a digitally-remastered version day-and-date with New Line’s June 15 musical release based on the hit Broadway show.
Directed by Adam Shankman, Rock of Ages stars Tom Cruise as as rock star Stacee Jaxx, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Mary J. Blige, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Alec Baldwin.
"Warner Bros. and Tom Cruise have been great partners and an early look at Rock of Ages is getting great response," Greg Foster, chairman and president of Imax Filmed Entertainment, reported Wednesday.

There is also going to be a sneak peak during AMERICAN IDOL tonight.

Really, that sucks I get the legal issues the musical had. But not to have it in the film is a bit silly when we are getting other def songs.

Maybe they'll play it over the end credits "curtain call"? I think that'd be pretty neat. I do think Paradise City is the all around better song, though.

Cruise on the cover of W Magazine's June issue.

Sweet cover and if rock of ages was in end credits I be fine with that. I think it should be in there.

LOL, Cruise is awesome.

But yeah, it's a shame if the song Rock of Ages doesn't make it in. That's something that always bugged me about two of my favorite movies, Dazed and Confused and American Pie. If you're going to name a movie after a classic song, then find some damn way to work it into the film.

The "sneak preview" on Idol was a bit disappointing. Just an extended version of the last trailer with only a few new shots inter cut, but nothing really new. A little bit more of Catherine Zeta Jones singing "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", which just shows that she really is a triple threat deserving of her Oscar for Chicago.

I'll say that Tom's brief singing of "Wanted Dead or Alive" sounded MUCH better than it did in the last trailer. Sounded less processed, and a bit more of just a clear vocal. He sounds great.

EDIT:
Here's the footage! Yeah, definitely a superior sound mix from the first trailers. The songs don't sound as overproduced. Tom sounds great.

Preorder is available on iTunes. You get a download of Tom Cruise singing "Pour Some Sugar on Me" when you preorder. http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/...on/id526223753

And here's "Any Way You Want It" sung by Mary J Blige.

So listening to the soundtrack, it sounds pretty great. Worst song is the made for movie one though, Undercover Love.

Was surprised how good Cruise and Hough were though.

I'm kind of obsessed with the cheesy era appropriateness of Undercover Love.

But my favorites are probably:

-I Want To Know What Love Is - Cruise sounds AMAZING on this track. Akerman is good too.
-Hit Me With You Best Shot - Slayed by CZJ flawless vocals.
-More Than Words/Heaven - One of my favorites from the show. This is actually better.
-Pour Some Sugar on Me - More Cruise being awesome.
-Don't Stop Believing - Down a half step, but I love the strings and the drums.
