I'm eventually picking it up.
I travel home from Port Authority, and Nintendo World is right there. I was discussing the three timelines that Nintendo created for the game, and at first, I didn't like the idea of labeling timeline A "Hero is Defeated." I've read various things to justify how this is a cop out, a what if scenario, or how it works, but most preset the failure as it being a game over. Now, after thinking about how they have come about with different games and how they place them, I'm starting to think that the scenario presented isn't what we've seen yet, and will be explored in a future game. In OoT, we're only presented with two scenarios, Adult Link and Child Link. Before WW, most people thought the timeline didn't split because of MM coming after OoT. It was only until after WW released, we're given the scenario of no Link to stop Ganondorf because he was sent back, and the flood occurs afterwards. Just like we've seen with OoT being labeled first in the timeline, but it could never be first because the Master Sword already existed. Then came Four Swords, Minish Cap, and recently, Skyward Sword, which were all labeled first when they released. This goes into speculation and a bit of fan fiction on my part here, but maybe Ganondorf from that timeline or another is revived and goes back in time to cause Link's defeat.

I really don't care about the timelines. I just take every game as a different interpretation/tale/version of a somewhat consistent legend.
If they ever release a timeline that I actually like, that might change. But the way it is, I like thinking about them as separate myths instead of one giant ongoing story.

I have Hyrule Historia. It's such a pretty book, I don't want to open it much. I have the Collector's Edition preordered, too. I don't even want to open the box from Amazon. It's...my precious.

I'm still not a huge fan of the "Hero is defeated" timeline idea unless this actually comes up in another game.

Is the Hyrule Hystoria worth picking up? I'm really interested in it, but I'm also really cheap.

It's under $20 on Amazon. Definitely worth it for that price.

I've read elsewhere that it has a large focus on Skyward Sword, which kind of limits its appeal for me.

I recently aquired the Zelda Collectors Edition for gamecube. I have only played the first four games plus about half of TP. Started playing Ocarina of Time yesterday for a few hours, and will get back into it in a little while, It's taking sometime to get used to the controls though.

I used to have that Zelda disc for Gamecube. Got rid of it when I sold my Gamecube. Now I'm finding it's kinda rare. Saw a used game shop down the road from me selling it for $80. I should have held on to it.

Here in Sweden it's not that hard to find them, but you have to pay a very hefty price for a game that old.

I hope this isn't old news, but I was reading a gaming magazine today and it had a lot of info about the next Zelda. If I'm understanding correctly there are plans for 4 different Zelda games as of now.
- A new "main" game sort of like an RPG with open setting and what not, kinda like Skyrim I guess. - A game centered around Ganondorf. - Some sort of a prequel to A Link To The Past. - A co-op game where one person plays as Link and the other as Zelda and working togehter to solve puzzles. Now, if all this is true then I am really interested. |

A game starring Ganondorf would be such a departure from the norm, that I can't see it happening.
But it could be awesome. |

I don't know that a Ganondorf game would be something that'd do very well. I'd still probably check it out, I'm a sucker for Zelda related stuff.

Well I assume it would be about his younger days, not as evil overlord.
Nintendo has done some games starring (or at least prominently featuring) Bowser. But Bowser is usually a cartoon villain. Ganondorf is actually menacing. If they did a game starring him, they'd probably turn him into an anti-hero. |

If they do a Ganon-centered game, I would see it working better as an unlockable to whatever game they do next.
So you beat the story mode playing as Link, then you'd get to start a new file playing from Ganon's perspective. I think that could work.

Hmm. I wouldn't want Ganondorf to be an anti-hero. Not every villain needs to have redeeming qualities or a rare soft side. Ganondorf to me is a straight up badguy, Satan incarnate for Hyrule. To make him somewhat relatable just to justify playing as him? I rather play as him and see him at his most deplorable.

I think a young Ganondorf game could potentially be pretty cool.

Now that I think about it, it's kind of strange that Nintendo hasn't expanded on the Zelda series very much. Pretty much every major Mario character has had at least one spinoff game, if not a series, not to mention other spinoffs. It might benefit the series to get let some other people monkey around with it and do their own thing.
