God damn right...

and they better pay Brad Bird as much money as he wants to come back, especially after all of the praise from the last one.

After walking out of Ghost Protocol, I wanted to see more from these guys. Hopefully it comes to fruition.

Can the franchise really continue without Hunt after they made him the focal point?

I thought the film brought the goods/the closest to the TV show and overall the best in the series..And I love ALL 3 other MI's!!!!

So Yeah I'm hoping Bird returns to direct,I'm glad Cruise's Ethan is staying!!

It'd be great if Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg returned. They're Hunt's best team so far.

Also, they could use the Syndicate as the villains. It's surprising that, in four movies, no one tried to take over the world.

I wouldn't mind if Maggie Q comes back. I have a feeling Renner will not come back. After Avengers and Bourne....he'll probably want a raise and they can't afford him anymore.

How much of a raise can he expect? He's not a very big draw.

Yeah I wish they got Holloway to play the Brandt character.

Brad Bird Says He’s Unlikely to Return for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5; Talks About Changing GHOST PROTOCOL’s Ending During Filming

What’s not to love about Tom Cruise playing out a death defying action sequence thousands of feet in the sky on a giant IMAX screen? Given that a different director has helmed each film in the franchise, most weren’t exactly expecting Bird to return for the next installment. The director has now, unsurprisingly, confirmed that he’s unlikely to helm Mission: Impossible 5, but he also revealed that they changed the film’s ending during the middle of production.

Hit the jump to see what he had to say, but beware of obvious spoilers for the ending of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

First up, here’s what Bird had to say when asked if he would be returning for Mission: Impossible 5 during an interview with Crave Online:

Although I wish the series had stayed in the vein of Brian DePalma's conspiracy thriller. I think changing directors every film makes it more unique. Especially given it's usually a-class talent and not the Brett Ratners of the world.

Sad but not surprising that Bird wont be back, he probably wants to move onto other things and Cruise et al probably want to keep it at changing directors every movie. Wonder who they will get instead, Duncan Jones or Neill Blomkamp seem logical choiches.

Oh man Duncan Jones or Neill Blomkamp would be fantastic, I got Ghost Protocol on blu ray, little disappointed in the special features. I really wanted a commentary, Cruise has a commentary with the director for the other 3 movies so I'm disappointed this didnt get one

Well they seem to go for up and coming directors, the last 2 movies they have anyway, so these 2 would fit the bill perfectly.

Pierre Morrel, Neil Marshall and Gareth Evans also fit that bill. They're all on the cusp of breaking into the mainstream. Cruise has the power to make studios take a chance on them.

Gareth Evans is the director of The Raid right? The thing is Cruise usually goes for directors with a little more acclaim for their actual storytelling, I know some think Woo was just the guy who brought "Gun ballet" to the US but his HK films had a lot of soul as well.
