I want the team from the latest film in the next one. It was a good mix. I've loved all the MI movies though. To me they just got better and better with each new film.

Not if he goes with his script.
Carnahan is a good director . My only complaint with him is that he llikes shakey camthough it isn't as bad as the ADD-crap in the Bourne movies .
But his script for MI-3 was quite dark. MI-4 was a welldone fun popcorn movie.

Basically, Ethan Hunt and his team dealing with a Private Military Contractor force protecting an elaborate scheme of organ harvesting and trafficking in South Africa.

it sucks that bird isn't coming back for MI:5 He really made MI:4 work so damn well. I just got the blu-ray and watching him direct shows how much passion and dedication he had for movie as well as paying tribute to the classic tv series.

Merantau likewise was a movie with soul. It sounds like you haven't actually seen The Raid?

I haven't but the reviews I read didn't mention anything but the innovative and hard hitting action.

Well, both actually. Merantau does it with story, but The Raid accomplishes it with making you care about the characters through their actions.

Maybe? We'll see if Bourne series can survive w/o Bourne/Damon.

We can agree it's a great movie. I mean, the movie totally delivered and did it's job. It's one of those special movies but I wouldn't call it an emotional experience. More like a 'F*** Yeah' experience for me, and the majority of the people at the theater in LA.

Wasn't the human body trafficking apart of Fincher's MI3?

I hope #5 doesn't involve Ethan having to "go rogue" again. That plot device was used in 1, 3 and 4; let's stop making the "IMF" look as useless as the real "IMF" is.

Yes, but after he dropped out, Carnahan took over with the same story. He even carried the concept of a Private Military Contractor force as the villains to The A-Team.

I like Carnahan but his movies always seem to be missing something to me. NARC was intense but the last half hour was just non-stop shouting and felt like it would have been a better play than a movie. Smokin' Aces was fun but it was a little too ridiculous for my tastes. And The A-Team was great in some respects but again, I think it might have served the movie better to be a little bit more grounded (I still wish it would have been successful enough for a sequel though).

Anyway, based on all of that, I'm not sure he's the right guy for M:I.

In other news, Bryan Cranston is playing Lex Luthor, Emily Blunt is Wonder Woman, Benedict Cumberbatch is Martian Manhunter, and that guy from Teen Wolf is Batman.

Christopher McQuarrie Eyed to Direct Next Mission: Impossible

Source: Deadline
November 14, 2012

Deadline has learned that Jack Reacher helmer Christopher McQuarrie is the choice to direct the next "Mission: Impossible" film.

"Im told that McQuarrie is the choice to helm the fifth Mission: Impossible film that is in the early stages of being put together by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. They will hire writers before making it official but hes the guy that Cruise and JJ Abrams want," says the site.

Last year's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, directed by Brad Bird, earned an impressive $694.7 million worldwide.

Cruise previously worked with McQuarrie on Valkyrie. McQuarrie has also worked on the scripts for Cruise's All You Need is Kill and the Top Gun sequel, which is now in limbo after the death of director Tony Scott.
