Sounds good to me! He's a very capable director, and Jack Reacher looks like a fun ol' time at the theater.

They could definitely do worse. Plus, McQuarrie and Cruise seem like they're friends, judging by all the collaborations they've had. It looks like good company.

Count me in!!

McQuarrie directed The Way Of The Gun, for anyone who hasnt seen it, watch it now, its great.

And I know very little about Jack Reacher but its looks fun.

It's a good choice, this McQuarrie. Hopefully this time, Crusie doesn't go rogue..again for the 3rd time.

But if he goes rogue he'll have one more entity to run from.

I'm sad that they stopped using Cruise's profile/side-view for the MI posters. It all stopped with Ghost Protocol.

Mission Impossible has always came off as a weird series to me because I think the only reason why the series goes on (besides the money) is that it's the only franchise that Cruise is attached to. Each sequel never feels like a natural progression; more like it's Cruise trying to re-establishing himself as the leading action man after a few misses at the box office.

I like its very episodic nature. Not sure if it feels to me like it does to you, but I'm glad it's such a loosely tied franchise and completey characterized by Cruise that there's no need to get a new installment every 2-3 years.

But you know what I'm saying. I can guarantee you why this series keeps on truckin', as explained above. I'm very initiative to these kinds of things.

Yeah, what I said wasn't meant to negate what you did. You're probably right, each movie's timing is suspicious.

Before MI3, Cruise was going through a slight slump post-'Jumping on couch'. Which is funny because pre-2005, things were really good for him with The Last Samarai and Minority Report.

Before MI4, Cruise again was going through another slump.

^Actually everybody is bi-sexual. Nah. Seriously don't turn SHH into TMZ guys.

Anyway McQuarrie at the helm of this series would be very welcomed.
He knows how to shoot the action for sure.

No he wasn't, MI:3 was where his slump started, it was much less successful in the US than War of the Worlds and all 3 of his movies prior were $100M US hits.

Before the 1st Mission Impossible he'd had 3 big hits, before MI:II he had Jerry Maguire and then 2 indie films, so other than Ghost Protocol Mission Impossible has never been used by Cruise as box office crutch as until the couch jumping stuff he'd never required one.

He uses this franchise as his personal Bond IMO, it's about having fun with the big stunts and enjoying the espionage sandbox for him.

J.J. Abrams Talks Mission: Impossible V's Potential Director and Star Trek Into Darkness' IMAX Footage
The ever-busy producer/director on the two big sequels.

J.J. Abrams:
Yeah, were talking to Chris McQuarrie now. I would just say that hes somebody who -- he did some work on the last one we did [Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol]. Ive been a fan of his since The Usual Suspects. Hes just a terrific guy, an incredible writer and a really wonderful director, so wed be lucky to get him.

IGN:
I know better than trying to ask any Star Trek story questions, but are you excited, with the IMAX footage debut, that its at least going to give people all-new questions to bug you about once they see the footage?

Abrams:
You know, Im excited because weve been working on this for awhile, and the idea of getting some of the movie out there to the world is going to be a real thrill for us - and as always you just hope people will like what they see!

IGN:
The IMAX footage in Ghost Protocol was stunning - my personal favorite use of IMAX for a scripted movie so far. What was it like on Trek to use that format?

Abrams:
It was amazing. Part of it was challenging because of the technical aspects of it, the machinery of it. The cameras themselves are a little unwieldy and a little loud and unpredictable. But then you go to dailies and you watch on this massive screen these images that youve shot having been filmed on a negative thats eight times bigger than what you normally use, and you cannot believe how good it looks. So thats exciting! But unlike Ghost Protocol, a lot of what we shot is integrated into special effects and visual effects in a way that I cannot wait for people to see. I think it really is mind-blowing, how it looks. The IMAX frame, I think, is really the best way to see a movie.

Hope Ethan doesn't go rogue again.

And isn't it weird that in the last film, the Secretary dies and no one seems to care?

So I rewatched Mission Impossible 4, and its' still great though I got antsy by the time the team reached India. The whole magnet thing and seducing Anil Kapoor are the parts when the film starts to drag until the car chase.

If Moscow is anything like Athens, there's politician bodies at the bottom of every river.

McQuarrie should be good.

I'm not involved in or aware of any of this, but I really wish one day we'll evolve as a forum to the point where people's lifestyle choices will have no bearing on the roles they play.

The Way Of The Gun is probably his best-known directorial work. It's a great film that sort of plays like a modern western. And Ryan Phillipe punches Sarah Silverman in the face. . . repeatedly.
