Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life)
Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) Honorable mention: Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre) Kate Winslet (Contagion) NOTE: I feel really disqualified for this section because I have yet to see Young Adult, The Artist, The Iron Lady, My Week with Marilyn or The Help. Thus, I feel like I've missed out on probably an entirely different list. Still last year felt stronger to me with Natalie Portman, Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman and Noomi Rapace....then again I saw those performances. Oh well.

That was last year, dude. She got an Oscar nom for it.
I feel like I'm at a bit of a loss here too because I haven't seen some of the top female performances this year, though I feel like I have seen a lot of movies. Anyway, here's who I'm going with for now: Carrie Mulligan: Shame Emily Browning: Sleeping Beauty Ellen Page: Super

I haven't seen a lot of the films with the so-called great performances by women because they look like bad movies to me and I'm not willing to suffer through a bad movie just to see a performance so my list isn't great because it's all from bigger films.
-Jessica Chastain (Tree of Life) -Elle Fanning (Super 8) I'll think of the other one later and edit my post accordingly.

Rooney Mara for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
And that's it; I feel that her performance in that film clears everybody else out of the water.
