It's part of the reason why I'm almost more excited to see what his next project is after TDKR.

Page was a glorified exposition machine in Inception. That was her sole purpose. To call her a character is insulting to the word. Anyways, Marion in Inception, Hall in the Presige, and Moss in Memento were quite decent.

Page's role was a "voice of the audience" device. She asks tons on questions. Similar to Aiden Gillen's CIA Agent role in TDKR...but lasting a lot longer.

Yeah, two of the three examples of good female writing, casting and direction by Nolan are femme fatale type characters, so I think that should give us hope for Talia and Selina. Nolan seems to do well with that archetype. |

The male characters in Inception wasnt that strong either. I mean you could take out JGL and Hardy of the movie, and it wouldnt change anything.

^ In other news, an internet poster named Laderlappen was savagely beaten when a huge mob of fangirls and some fanboys tore into his home.

Well... Truth be told I didn't find either to be interesting story wise other than they were nice to look at. Fischer is the one that I sympathized and liked the most.

I agree. Cillian did a fantastic job. I thought Tom did well given what he was given and JGL was forgettable (as usual IMO, I'm not a fan).

Yup. Cillian and Marion were the most memorable ones for me in Inception performance and character wise.

Inception isn't a character piece. It's a heist film. Nolan himself admitted heist films are emotionally vacant. Which is why he shoehorned in Leo's character arc, elaborating even further after his casting. It felt entirely artificial by the way. You could tell instantly when the narrative will come to a halt and Leo's arc will resume. Nolan should've taken out Cobb's arc entirely and elaborated on Murphy's even more, because his was the only naturally emotional story of the film. The catharsis of Leo's character had no impact on me whereas Murphy's catharsis was the most powerful moment in the film.

Characters like Arthur and Eames weren't meant to be strong characters in that sense. They were just different pieces in an ensemble. Meant to be charming, fun and cool characters, now if you didn't find them that either then that's another story. |

I felt Murphy probably did the greatest job in the film, in terms of a moving performance.

Again, characters like Eames and Arthur wasn't meant to be "moving". Both Hardy and JGL did great with what their characters were supposed to be.

He might've been having a ball, but he was one of the dumber parts of a dumb movie.

I haven't watched G.I. Joe yet, and don't plan to -- just seems like a horrible ride.
However, 500 Days of Summer and 50/50 had JGL giving his best acting, and he was far from forgettable in those films. |

I hate when people make excuses of bad writing. A heist movie can have well written characters. And if it is acceptable or something to have nothing characters in a heist movie, its still hurts the film. Then its a flawed genre.
I am not asking for much. I agree about Murphy, I liked him in it. But I wouldnt call him oscar-worthy or anything, and Im not asking for it.
