Yeah, I feel bad for them.. they're the ones who are really hurt by this.

From Yahoo..Petrino officially out. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/bobby-p...WM58R.rxY5nYcB

Quote:
''He made the decision, a conscious decision, to mislead the public on Tuesday, and in doing so negatively and adversely affected the reputation of the University of Arkansas and our football program,'' Long said, choking up as he discussed telling players that their coach was gone. ''In short, coach Petrino engaged in a pattern of misleading and manipulative behavior designed to deceive me and members of the athletic staff, both before and after the motorcycle accident.''

A clause gave Long the right to suspend or fire the coach for conduct that ''negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the (university's) athletics programs in any way.''

Long said Petrino was fired ''with cause'' - meaning he will not receive the $18 million buyout detailed in the contract - and there were no discussions about ways to keep Petrino at Arkansas.

Scandal another ugly exit for Petrino

After reading this column, it is clear that Petrino didn't just made one mistake; his whole career is full of them. Unfortunately, some universary or NFL team is going to roll the dice again with this guy, due to his winning record in Arkansas, so expect another story similar to this to show up in a few more years.

I was reading the Razorback forum on Scout..and thought I was on an NFL board for a moment. Some of their people are throwing out coach names like Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher. lol

I'd say about 95% of the users I've seen are disappointed, but still reasonable. However one loon wrote "Let's go get Pete Carroll or Jim Tressel!" A reasonable fan wrote "We just fired a liar, and you want to bring in another one?"

We all know who their next coach will be. And somewhere in the Arizona desert, Todd Graham is furiously typing out another resignation text.

Thread bump for the update:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/...nces-bcs-bowls

Looks like we'll get at least a four team playoff.

Big 12/ SEC making some moves. FSU and Clemson to the Big 12? Notre Dame? Interesting stuff going on.

They'll keep bringing it up because now, the prospect of jumping to another conference is seen as a legit threat. So, schools will use it as bargaining chips and threats to get what they want from their current conference, more revenue, TV deals, etc.

I heard FSU name being mention to Big12....more them exploring, than Big12 inviting. But I heard nothing about Clemson or ND? That's interesting, because last year, there was talk about FSU & Clemson interested in the SEC. Which is a better fit and natural state rivals.

According to some "sources" on Rivals, FSU and Clemson have both told the ACC they will explore other conferences. Also the "sources" say ND will join the Big 12 in all sports besides football until their TV contract ends in 2015. Then the Big 12 could add Louisville or some other randome team from the Big East or ACC.

I know the Big12 was also talking about Colorado State last year, to move back into that market, since Colorado left for the PAC12

I haven't heard anything about Colorado State? From what I have read, it seems the Big 12 wants to go East. Virginia Tech and Miami have also made contact with the Big 12, according to some "sources" today.

Consensus Reached On Playoff
Quote:
CHICAGO -- The BCS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick on Wednesday endorsed a seeded four-team playoff model for college football that would begin for the 2014 season.

The commissioners' consensus must be approved by the BCS presidential oversight committee, which meets June 26 in Washington, D.C. If approved, the four-team playoff would replace the current BCS system, which has been in place since 1998.

Sources told ESPN.com that under the recommended model, four participating teams would be selected by a committee, which would consider certain criteria such as conference championships and strength of schedule.

The two national semifinal games would be played within the existing BCS bowl games (Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar) on a rotating basis, with the host sites being predetermined before each season. The national championship game would be offered to the highest bidding city.
More at the link. I've been a long time proponent of an eight team playoff, but this will more than work.

I don't know what surprises me more; that this is actually shaping up to take place or that Jim Delaney seems to be so enthused about it. This thing better not hit a snag somewhere.

Yeah, I would prefer 8 teams.

I know some don't like the idea; but there's 120 division 1 schools. I would like to see 6 mega-conferences(16), with conference champions apprize of 6 spots and two wildcards apprize of whomever the best qualified teams. so for example, if a team is rank 4th BCS, but, did not win in conference championship game(like a SEC school most likely); they would apprize of a wildcard. So no conference would be penalized if they have two top rank teams. Or the wildcards could apprize of other qualifyers like Notre Dame or a team not in a Super Mega-Conference.

That's the last straw....for them to grasp onto. They will fully collapse in the next two years.
