Default Need serious advice on sticky situation!

Hey guys. Long time no post.

Long story short, My dad and step mom (dad is late 30's) and step mom is 27, and they went on a trip to cuba last Thursday, they come back this Thursday.

Basically the rules of the house were, have a buddy or two over and don't cause trouble. He also stated, watch out for the liquor cabinet. Me being the 17 year idiot old I am, had two girls come over to watch a movie with my friend and I, and these girls I met twice only.

They paused the movie, and said they had to use the washroom, and went upstairs (we were in the basement). So i let them do their thing, and they come back down after five minutes. Movie finishes and they go home, and i tidy the house before I go to bed. I then realize a bottle of Crown Royal is missing from the cabinet, while all other bottles are there and untouched. The house is clean, nothing else was taken, and the girls admit they stole it and drank it. I deleted them from facebook and from my cell, and I won't be talking to them ever again.

Problem is, I am really stressed out to tell my dad when he gets back on Thursday. What if i offer him the money for the booze, and apologize deeply? Your thoughts please!!!

I am 17 years old, I never drink, smoke, or do drugs. I have a very trust worthy record with my parents, and they know i don't drink and stuff.

I'm from Canada and one of my good friends is 19 which is the legal age here. But i want to be trust worthy with my parents, and i fear that they might know the expiry date or know something about the old bottle that's weird so they would know if I replaced anything.

I also don't want to lie : /

Then it sounds like your mind is already made up.

Just tell the truth.

But like, what would happen. Like what would your parents do if you were 17 and this situation arised, or what do you think would happen.

My dad is pretty chilled and my step mom is semi strict, i don't know how they would react because I have never been in a situation like this, or even a situation that would get me in trouble.

What would happen?

That depends on the parents.

If I told my parents the truth, nothing probably would have happened to me. I don't know your parents.

But I suggest telling the truth. It sounds like you did everything in your power to be responsible, and it didn't happen. So just tell 'em the truth, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

And damn, your dad was young when he had you.

I don't know your parents, so I don't know what they would do, but if you say that they trust you enough and you haven't been in that much trouble with them in the past, then just tell them the truth. They should respect that.

You had some friends over, like you were allowed, and they stole from you. Not your fault, really. Do your parents expect you to search them before they leave? I think the worst that would likely happen is they expect you to pay for what was taken and maybe some tighter restrictions on what they expect should they leave you home alone again. But you're also 17, so they can't treat you like that much of a child.

Thank you, and I am 100% willing to give them the money for the bottle. I just don't want to be kicked out or grounded for months cause I've never been grounded, but I pray for the best. This is such a serious situation in my mind.

Does anybody have any horror stories like this that are worse? I need comfort lol.

Also, I guess this is why i don't socialize much with groups, and why i mainly stick to my group of friends.

Well it doesn't sound like your dad is going to feed you to the moose over this, so I would just tell him the truth. Also, be thankful that's all those chicks stole, they sound like real *******.

Also, how did they sneak a bottle of Crown Royale out?

They had purses, so I assume that is where they put it. Man girls really milk the whole "don't go thru a ladies purse" thing for a reason. Just kidding...kinda? Ha.

Yeah I'm thankful, and telling the cops isn't an option because those girls from what I hear now are really in tune with ghetto guys and could have me stabbed if i snitch them, so I'd rather not turn this situation into a war, all over a bottle of crown royal.

Another thing is, how do I tell my dad the royal was missing? Like wouldn't you think he'd get mad that I even know what he has in his liquor cabinet.

Gahhh! My brain is gonna blow..

Alcoholics and ghetto girls apparently lol. This is why I keep my good alcohol hidden in the closet. That way if my place ever gets robbed, I'll have my good stuff to give me comfort.

Aha nice :P. Yeah this cabinet is more of a pantry that is located right in the kitchen. It's the first thing you see when you open it.

What bunch of lil bastards

I say tell the truth and even offer to pay for the bottle if you feel it's necessary. If you have always been trustworthy so far, and it wasn't your fault, then you may be surprised at the graciousness that your dad might show you. However, if you lie about it and try to cover it up and they find out, it will be worse. Then you will definitely not have their trust.

Come clean and show remorse. That remorse in itself might mitigate the circumstances. You might be grounded, but your dad is hardly going to kick you out r ground you for ages. He might ground you for a little while, but just accept the consequences and again show that you're sorry and offer to make up for it.

This kind of situation is one where you can even strengthen the relationship between you and your parents by coming clean, not covering it up and showing that you value their relationship enough to want to tell them and accept whatever responsibility you have to. If your dad is merciful to you and shows you grace, then that too will speak volumes to you. I'm not saying he will act that way, but then again he might. You never know.

I've been suprised many times by my Dad in the past when he ought to have punished me but he didn't, not because I didn't deserve it, but because he chose to show love and forgiveness instead.

Wow, this really touched me. Yeah I can relate to this directly and I feel like I hope this is what happens. I'd rather tell the truth and get strengthen, and who knows, this might make me more trustworthy.

But I really appreciate that you took the time to post that, and it really made me feel better.

I'm glad to hear that and to be able to help. I'm happy that you feel better as well. I was actually feeling down too, but seeing your response and that I could help someone has made me feel a little better myself.

Basically everything he said, it wasn't your fault these girls took advantage of you so I'm sure your father will understand this. Regardless if he decides to punish you I doubt it will be anything that major.

Tell the truth. I mean, he said you could have one or two people over. You had 3, so what? Turns out two of those people stole your liquor. You didn't do anything wrong except have one extra person over.

I think if you buy a brand new bottle AND tell the truth it would go a long way to show that you're sincere.

I think you are freaking out over something fairly small. Tell the truth like you just told us and tell him that you are willing to pay for another bottle to replace it.
It will be fine. Stop stressing and overthinking.
