You know, it's funny but in my Panini Essential X-Men CE (which I may have bored people with the fact that it runs about a year and a half to two behind US comics) somebody was saying how they weren't really upset by Nightcrawlers death because they thought he would be resurrected some time and the editor sighted Jean as an example of somebody who hadn't come back. I just raised my eyebrow and lo it looks like my cynicism has been rewarded!

Isn't Professor X a highly trained therapist? I know that as a high level telepath he should be able to help his people at least somewhat with mental issues but noooo, he has his team of mentally unstable people going beserk at the least provocation. If you read the early X-men when they have the new team show up they have Storm having massive issues with claustrphobia which lead to the team nearly getting killed by the Juggernaut, Colossus going crazy on the space shuttle when they were heading up just before the Pheonix saga started due to the thing with his brother the cosmonaut.

Did he just figure that they needed to work through their issues themselves or what?

I think Professor X was always very careful about how he used his powers and considered mucking around in people's brains a moral nightmare. Certainly in DPS he does admit a little fault in that he had helped release Jean's crazy. This also meant that he was loath to read people's minds to see when they were about to go CRRAAAYYYY-ZZZZEEEEEEEE!

No, he's a biologist.

Granted, he's probably studied psychology quite a bit and being a telepath would give you a natural advantage in the field, but he doesn't have any formal training.

I'm pretty sure we see pretty much every single member of the X-Men going into the Professor's office for guidance several times throughout the run of the franchise. But really good therapy sessions can't always fix someone's problems, especially in the case of Storm's claustrophobia, which is a reflexive stress response and would be treated by cognitive conditioning and/or medication, not psychoanalytical discussions. And I don't think Professor X has a license to hand out psychiatric medication.

Well in any case they need at least a dozen more people like Leonard Samson from Hulk. One for each super team out there. It might have helped the scarlet witch not go completely nuts and depower the mutants. Mind you I don't think that most therapists really know how to handle issues like "My father is a genocial world terrorist" or "My children were shards of the soul of the devil and now they've vanished from reality".

The JLA has it right. The have the Martain Manhunter as a therapist. Not only can he help your mind but if you start going crazy he will put you down!

Well, JLA would never cry out "Avengers Assemble" since that's the trademark of the Marvel heroes, right? Superman wearing Cap's shield, WTF? Then you notice non-DC characters like Scarlet Witch and Wasp (who's comment kinda sums up the fun in this).

It's from JLA-Avengers (2004), in which DC and Marvel heroes team up against mutual threats (the classic premise..). Cap lend his shield to Supes, which was very cool.

Supes got the shield, and got Mjolnir later in the fight. Cap gave it to him to wield while he, with Martian Manhunter's help, telepathically coordinated the entire fight. And still beat the snot of Prometheus while doing it.
