I think Britains Finest may be missing the point...sure, we all know who Lex Luthor is, but maybe the people of Metropolis don't know him yet. This is a reboot, a origin story. Lex could be a newcomer to Metropolis like Clark...we don't know so don't count anything out just yet

If Lex is going to be in the movie, have him be Lex from the beginning.

I like the idea of "mystery", although I'm not so sure how mysterious it is going to be if it does turn out Meloni is Lex seeing that most everybody is suspecting him to be Lex...

True - if it is supposed to be the film's big 'twist', it probably won't have much impact behind it, what with everybody preempting it.

Most of the GA will go into MOS with only the previous Superman films as their knowledge of the material. So I wouldn't be surprised if most people expect Lex to be in the film, and will just assume that Meloni is Lex anyway (seeing as he resembles Lex the most).

Seems like a huge stretch. He's a decent actor in tough guy/cop roles and showed some range on SVU within that sphere, BUT......I could never buy him as an intellectual... let alone the smartest man on the planet.

He seems suited for his military role.

Meloni wont be Lex. It would be a dumb thing to do.

Honestly, I'm glad Lex isnt in this movie. Yeah, he may be a general character and all, but he has no importance or relevance to Superman's origins, which this film is trying to establish.

I'm guessing Lex is out there somewhere during MOS, doing something to get the top. I'd like to see a sequel which focuses on the rise of Lex Luthor.

Right now, I bet there's a building in MOS's Metropolis that is called Turnercorp (for e.g ), and then during the sequel it's called Lexcorp, cause Lex has managed to get ahold of it somehow.

You know that scene in tdk when the joker told the mobsters that they work for him now, when he burned the money?....I could see something like that in the ending scene when he's telling turnercop... i figured id use your idea Rod ,that he just bought their co and that they work for him now....

I honestly imagine Lex starting out as an inventor and scientist for a company, getting promoted, then becoming the head of the company and renaming it Lexcorp (preferably not legitimately). Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world would it?

Without actually knowing I'd say Lex is a guarantee for the reboot. Like with the Joker and Batman, Supes and Lex are each others yin and yan. Day and night. Cant have one without the other. That would just be an obvious opportunity wasted.

But it's very much possible that he wont even be mentioned in MOS.

It's 99.9% certain at this point, that there is no Lexcorp, which means Lex isn't a big-shot during MOS. That also means in other terms, that it's unlikely his hatred of Superman will born out of jealousy. Cause Lex isn't in his castle, thinking he owns Metropolis, then watching Superman taking the adoration.

I reckon Lex will be military based and the arrival of supes and his powers will anger lex and that spurs him on to track him down using any means he can - over the trilogy creating a mammoth company to prop his presidency claim!

I like that. Another way to go with it, is if Lex invents something that scientist's in real life are trying to perfect, thus being dubbed "The Man of Tomorrow". It would inflate his ego. Realistically, Lex would set up business in Metropolis, saying as how it's the most powerful and successful city in America. His lust for credit and power would cause him to become jealous of Superman, and it would make sense story-wise if he thought -
"How can this city worship an alien over me? When not 5 minutes ago they wanted to destroy him!" This would obviously cause Lex to do whatever he could to destroy Superman, while all the while he's smiling for publicity shots

In a modern film you could have a lot of people that would pull off Lex successfully. Meloni would be fine.

i have always said meloni is too street cop rough to be lex

same reason bruce willis would also be wrong for lex

I think Meloni has more range than Willis, though (or at least is more inclined to show it). Willis, at this point in his career, has pretty much accepted that he will always be cast as a cop, a CIA agent or a soldier. And to be honest, I can't blame him; he's had some bad luck when he steps out of his comfort zone (though there have been rare exceptions, like 12 Monkeys).

Meloni might go that route too, but he has played a variety of roles in the past. The only reason people think of him as a cop now is because his most well known role was a cop on Law & Order.

yeah most people know Meloni as Elliot Stabler...still upset he isn't going back to SVU but glad he cam on over to Man of Steel. I hope he is Lex and this is pretty much for my own selfish reason. I like him as a actor and would love to see him continue to have a presence in my favorite franchise!

Melioni was also te flamboyant gay hotel clerk in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegs
