I would love to have Harthor to be true, but unlike Tatelia we don't have enough to go on with that theory other than the whole 'MAJOR ROLE' when his casting was first announced.

Oh ok. I got ya. I didn't say based on pics I believe it anyways. I've talked about the theory along with a lot of SHH members since Meloni was announced. It is not a new theory by any means.

I thought he was Lex as soon as they said he was going to join the cast...and then when they started being secretive about his role that just fed more fuel to the fire and then they eventually said he would play Col. Hardy...I still think it's a plot twist

I think it's nice that everyone loves Lex enough to be considering wild alternate explanations for him to be in this film

For the record, I love him too. He's my favourite villain of all time.

I just honestly don't believe he will be in this film.

I hope that he/his company features a mention (like Oscorp's presence in TASM) so that it's set up for a sequel. I even hope that it is alluded to that Lex is responsible for bad things and maybe even that the DP has had suspicions about him but no proof.

But he's not going to be Meloni springing up at the end going 'Ha, fooled you! I'm not just some Colonel... I'm really Lex Luthor' IMO of course.

Many websites that covered the original story posted that as a theory, no, it isn't new. It's not like the theory originated here on the forums or anything.

What sounds the most obvious explanation for Lex in this movie?

1) Col. Hardy is Lex somehow?

2) He's in Metropolis with Lexcorp and everything, but doesn't appear in any way?

3) He's not a bigshot just yet, and rises to power and Metropolis in the sequel?

i don't see Meloni with Star Power like the rest of the cast to be Lex. The star roster is impressive, and than you have a Tv star play Lex?

Other than Adams, Crowe, Lane, and Cavill(who technically is more known as a TV actor), Meloni is the next bigger name star. As cool as Costner and Fishbourne are, no one is rushing to the theaters for them, and Shannon and Traue aren't really name stars, though they may be better actors.
The public knows Meloni probably more than Cavill, so it's easy to understand if some saw/still see him as Lex.

Superman needs to be an unknown, it's the original formula, so you can't include him. Costner and Fishbourne have Star Power with plenty of films under their belt.

You pretty much naming acclaimed actors, especially Shannon.

Meloni doesn't have the Star Power for Lex. You want an ACCLAIMED actor, than call this guy

For the record, I had no idea who Meloni was until he was cast

So while he might be a household name in the US, he doesn't have international star power like Costner and Fishburne (who I knew straight away).

Excuse me, Director, you wanted Ashley Greene for Lois Lane to Henry Cavill.

I can include Henry, after all, he is the star of the movie. And yeah, Costner and Fishbourne have lots of films under their belts, however, very few of their successes are them in the lead roles.
And the actors I listed that you call acclaimed are what I assume to be the main characters in the movie considering how casting has gone. Adams as Lois; she's a star and a proven box-office draw. Same goes for Crowe and Lane. I wasn't just picking popular actors that have been cast, they are the most well known stars of the movie beside Cavill. Meloni has the same star power because of the show Law and Order. There's a reason he's been on the show for so long with so much support and having a majority of the side story compared to all the detectives from the show.

I fully expect Meloni to wind up doing another hit procedural drama on network TV, i.e. CBS. People love the guy from SVU and his bread-and-butter has always been on telly.

No, you can't include Henry Cavill in a list of acclaimed actors with big movies on their belt. You missed the point. Superman is suppose to be an unknown, Lex is not.

Yeah, I agree with the first part of your statement, thanks for proving my point, Lex should have the same power as the supporting cast.
But, your last sentence, you are saying that Meloni has the "same star power" in the likes of Russell Crowe (Gladiator)?

And considering the acclaim Cavill gets for the Tudors, yes, he's in the same league as Adams, Crowe, and Lane. The same way Cavill is held in that respect is the way Meloni is for L&O.

That’s not a law of nature. And getting a big name actor for the villain comes with risks. There’s a tendency to hand over a lot of screentime to him (and, consequently, reduce the hero’s screentime). And sometimes an unknown for the villain can be the right choice, artistically. Imo, the “unknown” Michael Rosenbaum has been the best Lex to date.

And look what happened when "big name" stars were Lex; no one cared much for Hackman from what I see on here and Spcaey pretty much became meme fodder.

"Star power" is a tad over-rated. The Twilight series is a phenomenon. But Pattinson’s personal popularity (for example) didn’t translate to blockbuster status for Water for Elephants.
