Just for one episode, but it's a much larger role than Josh Holloway had. I don't know if you watch Mad Men, but both Christina Hendricks and Vincent Kartheiser show up on Angel, too, though Christina has a blink-and-you'll-miss-her role. Joss then gave her a much more significant role on Firefly. Vincent (Pete on Mad Men), however, plays a very major character in Angel.

Yeah, my girl and I are still watching Buffy. We took everyone's advice here and decided to watch episode 1 of Buffy then jump to episode 1 of Angel and so on and so forth. Angel is a boss, kicks that corporate vampire out the window. "Can you fly?"

Yeah, I think Angel tends to resonate a little more with comic book fans because it's more of a straight-forward superhero show. A Batman-without-the-costume type of thing. And because it doesn't have a teenage girl protagonist, which I realize may be a little tougher for the majority of the comic book-loving demographic to relate to, lol.

I'm glad you're watching the two shows together! They're both better that way, imo.

Especially in Buffy episodes that mentioned Angel like Buffy asking Oz to give Angel the ring & when Angel shows up on Thanksgiving & everyone but Buffy knew about it. Then in Angel they do an whole episode dedicated to the Ring & then Buffy travels to L.A. & while there she visits Angel just to give her a piece of her mind after finding out he was there

Hahaha! That's what I was saying to my gf, that it's like Batman almost. It even had this great shot of him on a building at night looking over the city and he just jumps off.

Yeah, the show eventually finds more of an identity of it's own, but in those early days especially, they definitely leaned on the Batman similarities a lot, lol.

Btw, Christina Hendricks had two Firefly eps! Her 2nd one was my favorite.

Anyone else get annoyed at them breaking the daylight rule in Angel? It seems like he can just about where he wants in the day time. My gf and I are thinking wtf?!

Ok I'm on season 5 of Angel and I have to say I'm not enjoying it near as much as Buffy.

I'm burnt out on Wolfram and Hart.
Connor and Cordi were annoying as all **** in season 4.
Wesley's brooding has gotten old.
Gun and him bickerings really irks me.

Fred and Lorn are great tho.
Season 1-3 were golden, but season 4 and so far season 5 just haven't done it for me.

I absolutely love season 5. Probably my favorite out of all of them.

Takes a couple of episodes to get used to all the changes. But it really picks up and becomes ****ing awesome.

As I said before, S4 is my least re-watched season, because it's just not fun to watch. The storytelling is tight as hell, so I would never call it a weak season, but I just didn't enjoy it like the others. That said, I came to LOVE S5. Like O'Haire, it's probably my favorite season of that entire show. It was a bit more Buffy-esque in that it had a lot of stand-out individual episodes that I can just watch over and over. "Smile Time," "Destiny," "You're Welcome," "A Hole in the World" and "Not Fade Away" are some of the strongest and most memorable episodes in the entire series, imo.

There are definitely times when the rules get dodgy, but they generally stick to the "direct sunlight" rule - that is, reflected or filtered sunlight doesn't affect the vamps at all. That's why Angel can hang out in the shade and such.

Season 5 gets better quick, prolly the best season of the show Spike and Angel have awesome chemistry.

God I know, that episode destroyed me. But at least it gave us Illyria.

It's amazing how they can have such hilarity and immediately follow it up with an episode so devastating. That's like the Joss Whedon superpower or something.

Joss certainly isn't afraid to kill the heart of the group. When he killed Wash in Serenity I was crying mutiny, but this just hurt. When she said "Why can't I stay?" and just died right there in Wes's arms I about lost it. It was like Anya (who I absolutely loved) but so much worse. They were both brutal, but in entirely different ways. One was slow and one was quick but they both felt entirely unjust. And my god poor Wesley. The man can not catch a single break.

Joss's shows always seem to have a moment like this. When he takes his characters to the darkest depths. It's one thing I appreciate about his shows, but damn it sucks having to watch it.

I gotta take a break before I finish the show. That death, and the fact the show is coming to an end is a little more than I want to deal with right now.

P.S. I knew this death was coming, but I didn't expect it to go the way it did. I can't imagine what it was like for those who didn't know.

Yeah, I both love and hate Joss for moments like that. And they are in all of his creations - the Buffy-verse, The Firefly-verse, Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible all have at least one of these moments. The man clearly thrives on our pain.

It's even worse when you find out that her soul was destroyed when Illyria took over

I didn't know... and I don't think i've ever gotten over it...

I think her death is the biggest tragic moment in the whole buffyverse... I mean, her whole journey was just so epically tragic, and then to die just when she finally got her happy ending... it's just horrific. Especially knowing that knox picked her... like her being such a lovely beautiful person was why she died.

And I loved her so much by that point, she was just such an incredibe character.

Add to that everything Wesley had been through, and then watching him have to go through all that... I can't even thinking about that episode without crying

Yeah, I think Fred's death was pretty rough; and I thought Cordy's was pretty touching also, being a character that's been around since the beginning of Buffy.

One thing season 5 did was give us a kick ass fight between Angel and Spike.

I finished Angel. Grrr that finale is frustrating. Good but frustrating. I loved Illyria and Wesley's moment. Heartbreaking as it was. And her line about wanting to do more violence. Season 5 became my favorite season which it makes it all the more aggravating that it was canceled especially considering how and why it was canceled. One thing that really caught me off guard was Lorne's last act on the show. I mean whoa!!!

I really want more of this show.

Maybe I need to go back and rewatch it, knowing that there's not going to be any more episodes.

Ha, I knew it would become your favorite season! Lorne's final scene was SO sad to me. As for your emotional state at there being no more, don't worry man, we've all been there. It gets better, I promise.
