Yeah, and if they did that, they'd probably cost Anne the Oscar, since the category manipulation there would be SO transparent. Unless they made some MAJOR changes, nobody would watch Les Miz and consider Fantine a lead role.

I feel like if they're gonna bump one supporting role up to lead, it will be Lawrence, which seems a lot more justifiable, imo. Cotillard vs. Lawrence could turn into a pretty interesting race.

I wonder if TDKR or Avengers will take home anything or even be nominated probably the two stand out films of the summer.

Yup. Lawrence seems more like a co-lead anyway so placing her on Lead makes sense and won't raise any eyebrows. If she does end up on Lead, I'll give her the edge over Marion since Marion already has an Oscar.

Keira won't be a factor in the race IMO although she might get a nod.

Helen Hunt got a lot of raves from Sundance but I'm not sure if she's a lead or supporting.

Are we all really ready to crown DDL or Phoenix the Lead Actor? Hugh might be the dark horse. He's never been nominated and Hollywood LOVES him.

Phoenix and Hoffman for The Master are pretty much going to be nominated. Especially Phoenix. I'd say just give it to him already.

Agreed. Plus, as I said before, a win for Marion would be her 2nd for a foreign language performance, which is just SO rare. So if Lawrence gets into that category, I have no doubt she'll have the edge.

Yeah, like I said, any of the other nominations will pretty much be token nods because they have a quota to fill. I don't see any of them becoming favorites for the win at this point.

I've only seen her mentioned for Supporting. That's gonna be such a killer category this year. At least 2 or 3 fantastic supporting performances are guaranteed to be left out for lack of room...so pretty much the opposite of the Lead Actress race.

I think the reward for Hugh will be the nomination, since, as you said, it would be his first. I strongly doubt he has any real chance against DDL and Phoenix.

TDKR got the most generic and pat-in-the-back nominations. And the 2 ones that have to do with sound are the ones where the movie f**ked up big time.

PTA may win best director as well, a beautiful film, scene after scene is so powerful.
Good point.
Which is why i guess people often view biopic films as Oscar bait.'

Seth Mac Farlane to host The Oscars 2013...

Quote:
Seth MacFarlane is hosting the Academy Awards.

God help us, who ever thought we’d be typing THOSE words?

The grinning mischief-maker behind the not-so-warm-and-fuzzy teddy bear of Ted, and the animated hits Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show will be the emcee of the 85th annual Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today.

It’s a bold and unexpected move, especially since he has never hosted another awards show, although MacFarlane proved himself more than capable on live TV with a recent Saturday Night Live hosting gig, which in retrospect would seem to be a major part of this Academy Awards audition.

I'm a fan so this could be fun.

Far more traditional and less "bold" a choice than people realize. He's a young, gentile Billy Crystal, i.e. old-school song and dance comedy.

Seth isn't a bad choice. Despite the content of his shows, he kept it clean when he hosted Saturday Night Live. He can sing a bit, which will help as well. He's not Ricky Gervais.

Plus, we may get James Woods as a presenter.

I wonder if it was his snafu at the Emmys that made them go, "that's our guy." Hopefully this time he'll go to rehearsal.

I also think his work at Comedy Central Roasts played a big role in getting this gig. He's the only person who'd emceed those shows more than once, I think.

He's a very likeable guy. The only people who say they actively don't like him is due to their dislike of his shows, but in person you really can't say with sincerity that he'd bother you.

I know he'll be ignored, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a best supporting actor nom for Guy Pearce in Lawless. That one of the most standout performances I've seen in a long time.

Will Conan O' Brien ever be offered the hosting job? I guess not. Oh, well. Seth will be interesting nonetheless. I'm sure there will be many song-and-dance bits.

I think he'll be otherwise occupied, being examined by top men.

Top. Men.

My annoyance with the guy isn't completely tied to his shows. It's true that I don't care for them outside of a few moments I've seen of Family Guy (mostly the Star Wars parodies), but I feel as though I can separate that opinion from my thoughts about the man himself. And for me, MacFarlane comes off as kind of a douche in person.
