The Kree are ideal for the Captain Marvel connection alone. He could be the Kree version of a Superhero who ends up aligned against Thanos.
I don't know why Skrulls would be out. I don't think that they're necessarily part of the FF rights.

I havent read much of Adam Warlock in my time, what makes him so powerful that he can take on Thanos?

He can't take on Thanos. No below someone like Odin can.
But Warlock and Thanos have had a lot of interactions throughout the years, as friend and foe. Warlock, as owner of the Soul Gem, knows Thanos more than anyone else, even himself. It was he who planned the counter attack on Thanos during the Infinity Gauntlet. |

^Interesting, so is the Soul Gem really Warlocks main weapon against Thanos?

No, his main weapon is his mind. Basically, Adam Warlock is the guy who comes up with the plan that saves the day. He's just also a fairly hefty cosmic powerhouse outside that.

Thanos is the champion of Death, Adam Warlock is the Champion of life. They inextricably linked, and terminally opposed, though through it all, Warlock has managed to become the closest thing to a friend Thanos could claim to have.
I want to see Adam on the big screen, but I think his relationship with Thanos is too philosophical and heady for the GA. My ideal GOTG faction would be: Starlord Adam Warlock Gamora Drax Rocket Raccoon Groot

My ideal GOTG faction would be:
Starlord Adam Warlock Rocket Raccoon Groot Phyla-Vell Nova Big (cameo) I wouldn't want Thanos as the villain because then they have to lose at the end badly. I would go the Annihilation route. We find out that the Other is Annihilus and he's heading toward Asgard with his armada to get the Tesseract for Thanos. Nova (Richard Rider) assembles the team and they go after Annihilus. Nova's team stops the Armada but is destroyed by Annihulas. AS Nova is dying he sends for a scout to go to warn Earth about what's coming. That scout turns out to be Abigail Brand. GoTG vow to honor their leader and hunt down Annihulas and make him pay. End credits would be NOVA's helmet crashing to Earth and found by Sam Alexander. |

Thanks for the info on Adam Warlock peeps.
Personally, they could still have Thanos work in a GOTG film, you could have him beating the team to a pulp but they still manage to stop his plans working, like they are able to alert Odin to Thanos smuggling the CC out of Asgard or something, there are plenty of ways for them to do it.

To me, Nova should start the Marvel Studios space movies. Let Avengers finish the trilogy and after that comes the GoTG. Nova can be filmed between Avengers 2 and 3. |

My Guardians of the Galaxy movie would be based on the team's genesis in Annihilation Conquest.
It would center around Star-Lord, a former Superhero, who due to youth and inexperience, accidentally destroyed a small colonial planetoid in an attempt to destroy a cosmic threat. The film would be a redemptive film, about a rag tag group of intergalactic ex-cons getting a second chance (think the Dirty Dozen meets Star Wars.) The villain would be Annihilus and his Annihilation Wave. Over the course of the film, they'd have to find the long gestating Adam Warlock, to help combat the Annihilation wave. Despite Warlock and Star-Lord clashing on a personal level, they'd eventually form a tight bond, one that would prove vital to the salvation of the universe. I'd leave Nova out personally. After The Green Lantern fiasco, this movie has enough going against it without them having the film revolve around a cut-rate version of Hal Jordan. Focus on the 1-2 punch of the maverick Star-Lord, with his snarky Han Solo/ Captain Kirk charm, and the Brooding, Philosophical Adam Warlock.

^That sounds nice. Besides, GotG gets more hokey the more humans happen to be out adventuring amongst the unknown galaxy. If it were me, Star-Lord would be the only human who knew all this was going on out there. He would be our window into this world.

Making the Messiah/ Hero character (Adam Warlock) the emotionally distant, co-star, and the hero sort of a ground level soldier would increase the wonder of a vast Marvel Cosmic Universe; The protagonist would constantly be going "HOLY ****!!! :"I know a lot of people love Nova, but I think his arc is a little cliched. Star-Lord is to me, much more fleshed out and three-dimensional.

I'd keep Nova in there. I think there's much appeal in his character.

And what about how he completely wrecks the dynamic of the team by his presence?

However, I would say that the events generated via The Avengers or a GOTG could easily serve as a catalyst for a Nova film, or really a lauching point many other cosmic based heroes. This is what is truly exciting about an integrated universe. The events of one film can be a prelude to others.

I think all of these fantasy revisions of the GOTG roster fail to see the team for what it is. It's a bunch of miscreants, undesirables and underdogs banning together for the good of the universe. Almost every member of the team is certifiably whack. That's the charm, the unsaviory Dirty Dozen type feel. Nova would only detract from that, and draw all of the attention away from the other characters based on how different he is from the rest of them, thus altering the tone of the movie. I'm all for branching out to a Nova movie, but Nova changes the dynamic of the team the same way sticking Wolverine in the Fantastic 4 would change the dynamic of that team. Nova upsets the balance.

I think that, for the sake of an adaptation, they'd almost have to reduce the "dirty dozen" factor. Or rather, play it straight, with the team being a bunch of misfits, but gathered and lead by the straight arrow Nova.

IMHO,I don't want the IG story line, but rather they go w/the earlier story line of the Marvel Two in One.At least that Thanos incarnation was beatable and also the Cosmic Cube story line.

After reading through the article that is currently up on the front page of SHH, I must say that a feature length Guardians film does look likely. I just wonder how far into development the project actually is right now.

That's not really indicative of anything. Companies take out trademarks all the time. At best, it means someone at Marvel thinks they *might* want to do something with GotG at some point.

I think Modern for the first film, and then you expand the franchise with the 31st century GOTG. A GotG Trilogy could reveal so much of the Marvel cosmic-verse, alongside the Inhumans and a Nova film.
