I think we'll get an open beta first and a full release will be announced during that.

But yeah, my anticipation for this project has grown expansively. Having a PS3 is annoying because all your friends buy the 360 versions of games, making online somewhat pointless. But if they pull this off and the free content is sufficient, I can see myself playing it with friends for a long time.

This will be PS3-exclusive, jsyk. Btw, I've been taking part in the closed beta of this. I'm not allowed to discuss details, so I'll just say this: it's a LOT of fun!

If you're unfamiliar with the new PlayStation 3 shooter DUST 514, and the PC MMO EVE Online on which it's based, the latest CCP video dev diary is for you. See, DUST mercenaries inhabit the same universe (and the same server) as EVE capsuleers, and like their EVE counterparts, DUST mercs are immortal.

The new video is the second part of CCP's Welcome to New Eden series, and while the lore stuff will probably seem somewhat fluffy to the EVE-newb target audience, there is a bit of gameplay info to be had. It centers around DUST's fitting system, which differentiates the game from traditional role-based shooters by allowing extreme flexibility when it comes to kitting out a character and adjusting to a dynamic battlefield.

The firefight's only begun between DUST 514 and the competition, as CCP Games is showing off the many subsidiary features of its upcoming PlayStation 3 MMOFPS at E3 this week. The studio used the Expo as a platform to announce that DUST 514 will have its own dedicated Home Space on the console as well as a tie-in app with the portable PlayStation Vita.

DUST 514's Home Space is intended to be a hangout for up-and-coming mercenaries, and CCP invites all interested players to check out the thematic virtual place over the summer. It will also be one of the best places to snag a beta key: CCP is kicking off DUST 514's Home Space by giving away 10,000 all access keys to the first people who visit.

The studio's also developed a companion app for the PlayStation Vita called DUST 514: Neocom. While the app does not let players fight in the game, it does allow them to experiment with loadouts, customization, market exchanges, and social features.

The premiere beta weekend event for DUST 514 will kick off on June 29th. CCP's released a new trailer for E3 that showcases the gamein action, including several in-game shots of tanks, ships, and soldiers blowing stuff up -- check it out after the jump!

The only other place besides IGN to have a hands on was Game spot. In the last one on the list there. The others still have have yet to put theirs up when ever they do I'll put it up I Guess. Depends if they have some thing new to say.

DUST 514 is NEVER going to be Pay to Win!

Recently, DUST514.org posted that "best" loadout (it heavily depends on your skills as well, since you can't use that loadout if you don't have skills for it in the first place) will cost you roughly $0,24 if you want to buy it with Aurum. Read all the details here, but keep in mind that everything that you can buy with Aurum is equally powerful as the stuff you buy for ISK (in-game currency). DUST 514 will never be pay-to-win and CCP will stand behind that always.

The MMO Report has been on hiatus since April, and we've all felt quite alone without it. But Casey Schreiner's gotten a new haircut, a new suit, and presumably a new shoeshine to go along with a very special new episode of the show. No, it's not an episode about teenage drug use; it's an episode packed with all of the post-E3 2012 goodness that a fan of MMOs could possibly want in a 14-minute broadcast.

Unfortunately, Casey himself couldn't be at E3, but that didn't mean that he couldn't round up plenty of video interviews. That means some video coverage for The Elder Scrolls Online, PlanetSide 2, DUST 514, Age of Wushu, and the rest. Could you ask for anything more? Perhaps to have the video embedded just past the cut? High-end gear in Dust 514 costs 24 cents in real money

CCP Vice President Morgan Godat has revealed the real-world cost of a high-end set of gear in the upcoming EVE Online companion, Dust 514, and it might be cheaper than you expect: About 24 cents. If you were to equip a character in the game with some of the highest-level gear out there and send them out into battle with equipment all purchased directly with real money, it would really only cost you a cent less than a quarter.

But that figure is a little misleading, unfortunately, on both ends. On the one hand, that's the cost to equip a character once. When you die (which you'll do a lot in the match-based first-person shooter), you'll have to rebuy all of that gear, so players will probably buy their guns and armor by the hundreds or even thousands, not just one set at a time.

And just like EVE Online, most of the gear in the game will be purchasable with in-game cash, called Isk, not just real-money purchased gold, called Aurum. EVE Online players will even be able to buy gear for Dust 514 players, so if you're a great shooter some ship jockey might fund your gear bill once the two games are finally connected. Dust 514 is currently heading into a series of betas (so these costs are still in flux anyway), and readying itself for a launch later this year.
