Lex Luthor is an atheist, right?

Seems like he should be, given that the modern take always has him hating Superman for holding humanity back by coddling them rather than letting them fulfill their own potential (under his leadership/dominion, naturally). I can't see the concept of a benevolent God having any hand in humanity's development sitting too well with him.

That's how I feel. To believe in God is to accept there is a higher power than yourself, which goes against any version Luthor I've ever seen. But I figured there might have been some wacky post-Crisis moment where confronted some religious deity.

Yeah and that's what made me wonder God ever talked to Luthor or something. Perhaps in the form of a burning toupee.

Didn't someone say in this thread that God was a character in the DC universe? How can anyone be an atheist then? That would be like Lex not believing Superman was real.

The fact that Lex Luthor (and while I'm at it, Mr. Terrific) is an atheist shows a stubbornness that is nothing short of remarkable. In a world where you could come face-to-face with the likes of Wonder Woman, Wonder Girl, the Spectre, Big Barda, Mr. Miracle, Darkseid, Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, or Black Adam, you've pretty much lost all right to say there's no proof of a god.

They were created by Jack Kirby, so I don't think there's a difference between egotistical aliens and divine pantheons.

Ehhh, I can see how one could still be an atheist in such a world. I mean, just because somebody says they're a "God" that doesn't necessarily mean they are. I'm sure Lex simply see's them as powerful douche bags who attained power in one way or another and that's pretty much all they are. He could be right for all we know.
Mr. T however simply hates God for ruining his life, so he stubbornly refuses to believe in him, even though he got the idea to become a hero from one of his angels.

Has no one ever asked that question in the books?
It just sorta mirrors my problem with Thor and atheist. In Marvel Thor is a god and his best firend Tony Stark (a man of science) would probably call himself an atheist. |

No he doesn't. Starks not an Atheist.
He thought he was just a nut job with a lot of power....just like everybody else. Then he actually went Asgard and realized he was telling the truth.....but then you still have to ask yourself, what exactly is a "God"? Is it some divine being responsible for all the stuff attributed to the term? Is Thor responsible for Thunder everywhere or did Thunder and storms exist before he did? If so, then what exactly makes him a God? What it ultimately come down to is people at one point worshiped him. That's it. Hell, Supes is a God then.

Illogical? Sure......but nothing pisses a deity off more than people not believing in it.

You know, he doesn't just deal out death on Earth, he's got an entire universe to punish. Like I said. Guys got s**t to do. When you open a comic and don't see the Spectre? He's probably killing the f**k outta some random dude on Raan or Thannagar or Purple Powder Puff Planet. (You'd be surprised how often he has to visit that hell hole. )

Is the new Earth Two comic just going to be Justice League: Twist with a different name?

you ever read JSA?
Well they take the JSA, and completely f**k it up with Extremeitude, and that's what Earth 2 is gonna be.

So yeah, it is just Justice League: Twist. I'm guessing 90% of it wouldn't really be cannon that ever effects anything? So are they even going to bother trying to tie it in with the rest of DC's 52, saying something like - they're tring to get to Earth 1 for some reason or another?

Well, Huntress and Power Girl are already mysteriously stuck on Nu Earth or whatever they're calling it, so it is cannon and will probably be involved in some sorta extreme crossover in the near future.
And it's Justice Society. Not Justice League. There's a difference. As in a lamed up version of Jay Garrick and Alan Scott.

Sorry saying "it's not cannon" might not be the right phrase.
What I mean is, if Big-Bad-Man-X blows up the Statue of Liberty it doesn't really matter coz Superman can fly by it next month coz it's a different universe. It is Justice <Team A> so stories should be epic and maybe even effect the world but it'll probably never effect any other comics I read. I'm really intrested in the new Huntress/Power Girl comic but I'm not sure if I should bother with Earth Two. |

Sure, but just about everyone has met The Spectre, and aside from that, magic is an everyday occurrence in the DC Universe, so, it would be silly not to believe in God with evidence literally blowing up half your block occasionally.
