Good memory ... one random frame of two random cops from a graphic novel published 25-years ago. Heh.
I suspected the first half of TDKReturns would be a partial inspiration for this movie. That seems to confirm it. KBZ |

It was just so badass that veteran cops could have such fond memories witnessing Batman do his thing, and would mentor young rookies to feel the same way. Also, one of the most famous Batman graphic novels in history. I've only read the famous ones, at any rate...

Nothing like those fond memories of the tumbler rolling you into scrap metal and having it send you hurling into the air and sustaining some pretty painful injuries after the fact to boot.

I noticed quickly most of the poses from that photoshoot are based off Jim Lee drawings,
which is pretty cool & how I instantly knew they were based off comic art. OR they were just flipping through the HUSH book on set

![]() Visually speaking, I think the film's entire color palette is an homage to DKReturns. The cool, desaturated colour scheme screamed to me Lynn Varley's watercolor art in DKReturns. ![]() ![]() |

There's been DKR influences sprinkled in all the films, but here it seems a little more overt.

Similar to that scene from the MTV spot
Whats interesting is the background though, which reminds me of the scene where Bane 1st meets Batman in the movie ![]()

I'm re-reading Dark Knight Returns now after reading all of these nods to it.

Not quite sure what you mean on this one. Care to elaborate?

This is a pretty good article outlining some of the possible specific comic influences in the film. I think it goes a little too far in places (you'll know what I'm talking about), but it does point out some stuff I hadn't thought of before:

I imagine certain shots will be modeled after specific panels from the comics (one involving Bane and a knee, perhaps?), but I think most images from the movie are just based on the general and common Bat iconography filtered through the eyes of Nolan (and Pfister) and not particularly modeled after specific panels.
As for story influences, in a nuthsell: Bane ![]() ....pretty obvious Batman ![]() Catwoman ![]() ![]() Thematic Influences ![]() And probably just the US and European economies post-2008, as well.
