Not necessarily, some artists avoid the lines around the thighs like Lead Cenobite posted previously

Mostly I was referring to Frank's shading on the crotch. It gives it a more fabric look as opposed the the armor look.

Um, actually the picture posted in this post has his suit making him appear like an action figure; was that done on purpose?
I have seen some manips of a redone suit where there are no traditional trunks but there is red splitting up the blue. Perhaps if that was done instead of entirely 86in the trunks more people would be content.

Well luckily it's open to interpretation... Having an undie outline would be stupid... However, it was there in Jim Lee's original design...

But seeing as how mostly nobody (including Jim Lee himself) can adhere to the overcomplicated design, I'd go ahead and not draw them....

It's actually just a Kryptonian fabric. It's pliable.

it's like a 90s superman power ranger costume

I just don't like how the seam pattern changes with each artist

Right, it probably goes on like any jumpsuit. It zips up in the back.

The classic costume went on like normal clothes: the shirt was a shirt, the trunks were not really trunks, they were the top of the pants, and the blue legs were attached to them. So he'd put on the pants, tuck the shirt in and I guess compress it to being skin tight, then buckle the belt.

The new costume, I have no idea-it looks like a one-piece, but so did the classic.

The MOS costume is obviously a one piece as there is no belt.

Action Comics #7 seems to indicate that it's one piece.

I have seen you post this a few times now and i have wanted to ask how do you know the trunks are attached to the legs? I have always assumed they were seperate in a 3 piece . Wondering if you have any images to back this up?

It would make more sense for all of the blue portion of the suit to be one piece, kind of like the MOS suit, and for the trunks to be separate, and simply go on over the blue. If the shirt was "tucked in", it would be constantly coming untucked during battle.

Well, one of Superman's less celebrated powers is super-tucking. Nothing ever untucks on him.

I always found it weird that in SR when Superman flies up the elevator shaft to run off to save Lois, that he had 2 pairs of shoes on, his work shoes and his red boots.
I think Christopher's costume looked like a 4 piece; bottoms, shirt, trunks, cape. But in L*C, the 90's cartoon, JL, JLU etc. the blue looked like an attached one piece. I admit it always worked better in my mind that way.

There were deleted scenes in SII that had Lois wearing Superman's "shirt" like a nightgown.

Although, I believe the actual suit Reeve wore was made a bit differently.

You're right, I'm sure the actual event was supposed to happen too fast for anyone to really be able to see how he did it; but in this film they went a different way. It's just one thing that made me about the movie that's all; no big deal. It's weird that those boots in his shoes were more of a problem for me than that cape being tucked into gawd knows where.

its just one of those things you have to let go....or else you have to question where his clothes went when he spun in the revolving door or during the beginning of Superman 2.

actually(in the comics) wasn't there supposed to be a pocket in his cape where he kept his clothes????

I know for certain the costume is a separate shirt:

And I'm pretty sure the pants and trunks are one piece, because the belt IS a belt-in fact, it is the safety belt from the rocket that Kal-El landed in. And the boots are made from the seat of the rocket. It wouldn't make much sense to have a belt on a pair of trunks that are pulled over blue pants.

Regardless, it's not a one piece.

He can compress the entire costume, but he wears the suit under Clark's clothes and the boots are probably in the pouch of the cape compressed, but I've seen them drawn under Clark's shoes as well.

It's just one of those things you have to go with.

Yeah, something like that shouldnt necessarily be explained and I cant imagine MOS trying to either despite the "realistic" approach.
