Oh, my showing didnt have the Avengers trailer. They had TASM, Dark Shadows, Breaking dawn and Battleship. I was about to come on here and complain about how Marvel could miss such an opportunity by not having the trailer attached to THG..lol. T

I'm not saying they should be portrayed as weak, but at the same time, u can't get audiences to care much about a character when he's invulnerable. Audiences want to be able to relate to characters when they watch flicks and its hard to do so when a guy is overly powerful and doesnt have an equal. A lot of critics mentioned that in their reviews of Spidey 2. Pushing the heroes to their limits almost always ensures more emotional investment from people.
Yeah I see what you're saying, but Thor has PLENTY of enemies who are just as powerful or even more powerful than him so that shouldn't be a problem.

For all intents and purposes Thor should be pretty much invulnerable to most things in the human world, but half of his enemies or other wordly so they're still able to push him to his limits.

My showing had trailers for the Avengers, TAS, Dark Shadows, Breaking Dawn, 2 other ones that escape my memory. It was nice to see TAS as well, the Garfield/Webb combo has me stoked.

Saw the latest trailer before the hunger games in IMAX and wow...people seemed quiet until the end when Tony and the Leviathan showed up there were more than a few gasps.

I just saw Hunger Games a couple of hours ago and sadly they didn't play The Avengers trailer in front of it.

^Aw man, that stinks. Seems this movie is really popular, I'm inclined to agree with what I read earlier, Marvel is missing out on some good marketing by not having that trailer in front of every showing...

Not really. There is just as much chance the Hunger Games will top 800 million as there is for Avengers. And most people are acting like 800 mill is the minimum Avengers will get.

THG looks to be the rabid fanbase phenominon we've seen with both Twilight and Harry Potter(seems to be that way with Y/A fiction). Bet it makes nearly 1/2 it's domestic total this weekend. Frontloadedness(is that a word?) is extremely common. Just see how the last potter film did over here. Gigantic drop the second weekend.

Nice to hear.

I'm sensing a phenomenon with this movie. I think it's going to do a LOT better than people expect. It may be the next 'Star Wars'-like franchise in terms of level of success for it's time and hitting multiple demographics.

Gosh, that puts THG on track to earn "just" $1.3 billion, like the last Potter film...

Somehow, I don't think Lionsgate would be upset at all with THG getting the same "gigantic drop the second weekend" that propelled HPTDH2 into the all-time record box office books

There seems to be a 'cannot say anything non-praising' mentality about THG developing in here; do that and people are immediately countering you.

Strange.

No, not really. Not at all, actually. THG is not nearly the phenomenon in Europe or Asia that it is in the US

I'm still not quite clear on what exactly the huge appeal of "Hunger Games" is. I had never even heard of the franchise until the trailer debuted.

Neither have i. But i wouldn't be surprised if it ends up around the 700-800 mill mark.

Ditto!

IMO it's an example of a 'mass hysteria'-like effect.

It's a post apocalyptic action film with romance and satire thrown in. What's not to get? Some of you have really limited imaginations it seems.

From the trailer, I don't get that vibe. Looks more like Teenie melodrama than anything else. I don't think anyone older than 25 or more masculine than the casual Hanna Montana fan is supposed to be in the target demographic, that's why I don't get the hype.

I totally understand if it doesn't appeal to you, it doesn't really appeal to me either. But i totally get the hype, you've basically answered your own question. It's an sci-fi action film with a girl lead and relatable themes for the target demographic. Plus, it just seems to be a really good film regardless, going by what pretty much everyone is saying, teenage girl or otherwise.

Saying things like "I don't get what the fuss is about" is basically saying "It doesn't appeal to me, so why does it appeal to other people". Which is a pretty ignorant and small minded way of viewing things I think.
