I never would have guessed that Prometheus is an Alien film judging by the trailers. I didn't see Prometheus trailer, or The Avengers when I went to see THG, but I did see them during John Carter, and while The Avengers got oohs and laughs because of RDJ, when Prometheus came on, a couple of guys around me said it looked stupid.

I'm on the fence for that one myself. Right now, it looks interesting, but nothing WOW! And it still doesn't look like it has anything to do with Aliens.

Like I said, it probably varies from crowd to crowd. The audience I was with last night was essentially composed of college students and adults. There were a few teens in the group but it was a 4-1 ratio.

What are you talking? The Xenomorph Sculpture, the Space Jockey, the hive-ish hallways, the thick and concentrated saliva and the flamethrower gave it all away. It had all the elements of an 'Alien' movie. So for people to recognize it or draw comparisons to an Alien film, they're either fans (wouldn't shock me considering the franchise is a cult-favorite for a decade now) or more informed nowadays.

Was hoping to see the trailer before HG, but they didn't play it. Just GI Joe 2 (which got a surprisingly good response), some comedy about new dads, and Twilight. People were actually laughing at that last one.

GI Joe 2 doesn't look bad, although I much prefer the fantastical style to this.

I'll give it a shot.

Actually, when I went to John Carter, it was mostly guys, maybe 30ish, 40ish, and some college students. And I'm not a hard core Alien fan, only Alien movie I did like was James Camerons, the rest I thought sucked, including the first one. From watching the trailers alone, it still looks like a generic space horror movie, and I see nothing alien in it. And, I am a regular joe when it comes to movies. If there was anything that interests me in this, it would because of the actors, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, who more or less, pick pretty decent movies to be in.

The Prometheus trailer doesn't tell the audience much other than that it's a "space horror movie". My brother saw it in the theater the other day and couldn't figure out what it was about, beyond the horror aspects of it. When I told him that it was yet another Alien movie he said he would never have guessed from what they showed on the screen. I think that people who don't keep up with upcoming movies might not get that it's part of that franchise. And when they get it, they still might not care (my brother doesn't).

I loved finally seeing this trailer on the big screen!

My showing of THG had trailers for TA, Prometheus, Dark Shadows, The Amazing Spider-man, and Twilight. None of them elicited any notable reactions from the audience except Twilight, which, bless my Saturday matinee audience, elicited laughter.

People saw these and reacted quite soundly to clips at my showing -- making Alien references.

Generic? That's your opinion, but to me the Prometheus trailer blows every other trailer out of the water. It's by far the best trailer released (beating out The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spiderman, The Bourne Legacy, etc).

Do I represent millions? Of course not.

It is merely my opinion, as I've stated numerous times before.

The trailer for PROMETHEUS is fantastic but THE AVENGERS trailer still beats it by a country mile. That thing still gives me chills and goosebumps watching it to this day.

Also when I showed THE AVENGERS trailer to non comicbook people they were hyper-enthusiastic to see it. The same people I showed PROMETHEUS to just thought it looked cool but it failed to elicit any real enthusiasm from them.

Prometheus is proper sci-fi. Big ideas, big questions and amazing visuals. If you're not a fan of sci-fi that's fine. But visually, it looks incredible and to deny this means you are a philistine.

The first Alien is still one of the best sci-fi films ever made. It's also still one of the best horror movies ever made. If Prometheus is anything like that, we're in for a treat.

I'd say there's a greater chance of me watching Prometheus than oh, say...The Hunger Games or Battleship and I do think it's trailer 'looks' ok(I guess, for whatever it's going for) but that's about as far as I can go on that. Still most likely skipping it, though.

What about it doesn't appeal to you? It just genuinely boggles my mind that we are on a superhero board and people are not excited for a pure sci-fi flick of which we haven't seen in years.

I was never a big fan of the Alien series(liked Predator much more) and I tend to loose interest in sci-fi anyway. Superhero films typically aren't science fiction. They're science fantasy or pure fantasy and I've always been more of a fantasy & mythology guy. Science fiction to me is far too concerned with how all this non-existant stuff can actually work whereas science fantasy just needs it to exist as a backdrop of telling a mythic-like story and isn't so pre-occupied with grounding every little detail in real science.

That's fair enough, I get where you're coming from. But i think with Prometheus there will be more emphasis on the philosophy and mythology type of things too. I mean for example, imagine in say, 100 years with the advances of science, what if science PROVES that God doesn't exist and we were created by aliens? I think those types of concepts are interesting. It's using the sci-fi setting to ask more personal, human questions.

And just some of the imagery and dialogue is great. A quick glimpse of what appears to be a guy whose face is melting off. Another with a creature crawling inside another guys spacesuit. Audio of someone screaming "cut it off!". That's the kind of horror i like. It's like Lovecraft, stuff that is so beyond the realm of human knowledge and understanding it's scary.

It's why i've always preferred the first Alien to Aliens, even though it's still awesome. Cameron made the aliens more understandable ie a colony of ant/bee like bugs with a big Queen. The first one you didn't really know what the alien was about or what it's motives was. All we knew was that it liked to rape people lol. And i mean, being raped by an alien, is there anything more horrifying?!

It can't top Avengers for me but Prometheus is probably my second most anticipated flick this year. It's going to be amazing.

haha i've been flip flopping between them. When i saw the first Avengers trailer i was like "meh". Then i saw the Prometheus teaser and was like "Good lord!?!" Then I saw the Avengers SB and new trailer and was like "Holy ****ing ****!" Then i saw the latest bunch of Prometheus trailers and i can safely say it's probably the most hyped for a film i've ever been heh.
