Prometheus has the best trailer(s) of the year, imho. It's enough to shoot the movie to my #1 must-see this year, slightly ahead of Avengers.

Not sure why, but anyway like I said I thought it looked fantastic! That trailer catapulted this movie into my #2 most anticipated for the year.

So my movies to look forward to in order are now:

THE AVENGERS
PROMETHEUS
THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN
THE HOBBIT
WRATH OF THE TITANS

The great thing about them is that they are visually stunning, give a good sense of tone and story. But still it's all a mystery.

Avengers? Yea it's visually spectacular, some great character moments. But at the end of the day we know what it's all about. It's about an alien invasion of Earth and in the end the good guys will win.

Dude, that's perfectly fine and acceptable.

I hope for all of us that it turns out to be worth it.

I have to say I'm a little worried it might just a modification of Von Daniken sci-fi/fact. But even so as long as it's thrilling I'll be happy; I'm not looking for a movie to change my life.

True.

The thing is though because of how the trailer is edited I'm not sure I'm getting exciting or interesting. It looks like it but not for certain.

THE AVENGERS gave some scenes of reasonable length that confirmed for me that this movies going to be AWESOME!!!

Yeah, I'm certainly not saying there's anything new in the concept of Ancient Aliens/Chariots of the Gods, by any means; but that's only the backdrop of this movie. It's the presentation and visuals, the cerebral storyline and dialogue, a massive conflict not only between man and alien but also within the crew itself as they turn on each other, all set against an overwhelming feeling of dread and horror. This movie is *not* going to end well at all, and you know it from the start.....there's something terrifying about a movie where you're pretty sure everyone is going to wind up dead.

I'm looking forward to TDKR. But if the economic crisis/recession thing is too on the nose and the movie is generally really po-faced and up it's own arse like TDK i know i won't enjoy it.

I suppose the reason that Prometheus doesn't really do much for me, is because Daniken-esque sci-fi isn't anything new to me, or to any other Stargate fan. Between that, and the theological angle being a non-starter ( alien progenitors are only a religious problem if you're a biblical literalist, and if you are, everything else is a problem already, anyway ), all it offers is Ridley visuals and ties to the Alien movies.

Ridley Scott visuals and story telling plus ties to the first two Alien movies is enough to be hyped about a film.

It also deals with things like time dilation from travelling at FTL whilst in cyro-sleep and how that effects people physically and mentally, which hasn't really been done on film before. We're talking about a sci-fi film from the guy who revolutionised the genre... twice. He might go and do it for the third time. I don't get how anyone with even a slight interest in sci-fi or great, visually stunning yet intelligent films in general can't be excited for this movie.

Wouldn't surprise me considering the genre is a cross-breed between Sci-Fi and Horror and it's been around for over 20 years.
The guy who said "Prometheus" looked boring was in his mid to late 30's by the way.

With all due respect you need to appreciate that people feel differently and I can appreciate why:

- the ties to the Alien franchise may not be apparent to some people or may not be significant if they were not fans of the franchise.
- Von Daniken sci-fi is very been there done that to many people.
- The trailer while exciting to many does have a very manipulative quick cut/flashing light technique that actually doesn't show an exciting sequence of any length. Many people have been fooled by this before and are inherently wary.
- It being an intelligent film hasn't been confirmed by any means; you are making an assumption because it has an ancient astronaut basis and you have confidence in RS's past work.

That said, I'm excited as hell for this film but I can appreciate that some people are not. Like I said I showed to a couple people at work and they said it looked cool but it really didn't arouse any excitement or enthusiasm in them.

Ok, that makes more sense. I was a bit confused as to why someone who likes the Avengers and Spiderman would not like Batman at all, seeing as he is from the same family (comic book superhero). I respect your dislike for the Nolanverse, I can understand. (if you said this on the Bat-boards, they would eat you alive lol)

May I ask what you would like in a Batman movie?

No, they would try and fail.

As for what I would like in a Batman movie:

- exciting action sequences
- a sense of style
- comicbook fantasy
- Batman portrayed as an epic level bad@$$; not reduced to a foil to show how cool the villain is
- an interesting story where interesting things happen
- a plot not riddled with plot contrivances; it does not need to be overly complex
- no psuedo-philosophical BS
- no out of place or fake sociopolitical commentary
- iconic characters that resemble their comicbook counterparts

Big fan of Burton's films, especially Batman Returns.

After watching the Prometheus trailer I though von Daniken should have gotten credit as an advisor on the film. It's like they've been watching Ancient Aliens and taking notes.

And get this: Ancient Aliens is produced by a company called Prometheus Entertainment. Coincidence?

My dislike of Nolan's films can be summed up in one word: boring. TDK in particular is just such a ****ing drag. And the reason why is, nothing really interesting happens unless Joker is there. I can sit there for 3 hours and watch Apocalypse Now or The Godfather, no problem. Because there is always something interesting going on. With TDK it's just so bloated and po-faced it's like someone has come in with a Dyson and sucked all the fun out and replaced it with self importance.

Exactly. I find tdk unwatchably boring. I have tried twice and have never been able to watch it a second time.

However I have only brought this up because Hafizbat asked. I suggest we drop it before the hordes descend.

Very interesting. Thanx for the heads up.

I'm really hoping Prometheus puts an innovative twist on it and makes for an exciting and thrilling movie.

haha yes.

But just to reply to the thing about Prometheus... sure the concept has been done before. But i think we all should know it's about execution. There isn't really any truly original ideas out there. It's all about how they are presented. I think Prometheus is going a more Lovecraftian style horror movie with the whole "ancient astronauts" thing. Like, they won't be too happy that one of their pets (mankind) has evolved to a stage where they can come looking for their creators.

Sorry, last post about Batman! Just wanted to say that I agree with everything you said, almost identically. Sounds like you will enjoy the Avengers then. But I still enjoy the Nolanverse, glad its over though.
