The brawn and " the power" are almost the same position honestly.

Not really, brawn can only be used for certain things, like smashing, whereas power is alot more diverse.

Some things you can't do, no matter what your strength is. Thor has the most power on the team. Hulk has the most strength. Thor commands the elements, and no matter how strong Hulk is, he can't do that. It would be like asking Iron Man to plan a team mission, or Steve to hack into a computer.

Thor is the only supernatural guy on the team. Hulk is a monstrous creature, but he's still a mortal.

Its in the air if the Hulk is even mortal. It has been implied that his body lasts forever.

Something else at play though is the fact that Thor might, understandably, show alot of restraint. Whatever Loki does, its still Loki at the end of the day, and Thor wouldn't want him seriously hurt. His minions might be a different story, but im interested in how he deals with the team, essentially, trying to stop Loki by any means.

it's been a rumor/legend for a long time. I first heard about it in Entertainment Weekly back in the early 90's. Wasn't attributed to anyone specific though, just 'an executive'

The Hulk is functionally immortal but he's still mortal. He can be killed but it’s all most impossible to get him to that point by natural means. The only way to kill the Hulk is to destroy every last cell in his body.

DBZ reference! He's kind of like Perfect Cell.

I first heard it when the show came out waaay back. It wasn't a rumour at the time but an official answer that was given to the question of the name change (they didn't say Bruce sounded 'gay', they just said it wasn't masculine enough)

I remember 'Mad' magazine even made fun of it when they parodied the show (they had a guy named 'Bruce' winning Olympic events on a tv screen in one bit iirc...Been about 30 years since I read it).

In a couple of future set stories he has been shown to age, albeit slowly: In Future Imperfect he became the white haired & bearded Maestro (apparently with no Banner), and in 'Hulk: The End" he again had white receding hair, and Banner was a grizzled old man. I think the former was meant to be about hundred years in the future (Rick Jones was still alive) and the latter about a couple of hundred years or so down the line.

Going by those examples it could be argued he would eventually age enough to expire (would take a very long time though). However, from 'The End' story it could be said he'd keep on going no matter how much he aged. pretty tragic idea given that when he'd finally achieved what he'd always been after (finally left completely alone without even Banner to turn back into) he realised at the last that was not such a good thing after all.

One of the key things a lot of writers often point out with Hulk is that as much as he says he wants to be left alone and doesn't care or need others to accept him, he really does in some small way.

I think the final lines in the End summed it up well:

"Hulk is strongest one there is....
Hulk is only one there is....
...Only one...there is...
Hulk feels...cold."

All alone looking out over a barren ruined Earth, it sunk it what being truly alone really means.

The alliteration reasoning always made sense to me, even if it was a throwaway excuse:

Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Scott Summers, Samuel Sterns, Wade Wilson, Warren Worthington, Hector Hammond, Lois Lane, Otto Octavius, Curt Connors, Peter Parker, Pepper Potts, Matt Murdock, it does get a little ridiculous...

Or not so hehehe actually, I'm a Thor fan.

Just once I'd like Thor to dismissively teleport or hurricane wind-blast Hulk right out a battle, saying, "I have far more pressing concerns today than playing with you, Hulk...".

Going back over the descriptions that we've gotten over how Bruce Banner's character is going to be portrayed in this film, I gotta say that it feels like almost that he's changed the most since the events of his film in a way compared to some because if we go by TIH's continuity, Banner was spending the entire time trying to get rid of his "condition" and wasn't interested in using that as a means towards helping the earth, let alone came off more mild mannered and timid.

But in The Avengers, we've heard on how Banner actually has a purpose set in his mind that isn't about helping himself and how he's not as timid or shy in expressing himself, etc.

Heck, I wonder if they'll explain on how the Hulk became more self conscious when compared to TIH as well.

Their fight in A:EMH wasn't that bad, it actually seemed like they were pretty evenly matched unlike lame ass Hulk Vs.

Agreed; heck I liked on how they showed Thor smiling at one scene after having taken a hit from Hulk, and if anything, I think that Thor was in a way holding back since he knew that a full scale fight between them would destroy the city.

In any case, anyone want to take a stab as to why SHIELD has been protecting Banner for the longest time as revealed in the comic book prequels to the film and why they never tried to acquire the hulk for themselves?
