Default Heavy Rain - Light info appears and two vague screenshots.

David Cage talks about his work at Quantic Dream as part of the new 'TVG.TripleTap' feature series...
Quote:

Quantic Dream head honcho, David Cage, has spoken to TVG as part of a new feature series called TVG.TripleTap. He spoke at length about his writing and directing responsibilities at the Quantic Dream studio (of which he is also the CEO and Founder).

The interview is all part of TVG's new TripleTap feature series, the first article of which will go live next Wednesday the 16th January. The first feature in the series will focus on the 'Art of Storytelling' in videogames, including opinions on the matter from Rob Yescombe, Rhianna Pratchett and David Cage himself. All three have been involved in either games writing or directing on titles such as Haze, Heavenly Sword and Fahrenheit respectively.

During the interview with Cage, he let TVG in on some golden nuggets of information about the studio's current title under development, Heavy Rain. We were also lucky enough to receive a couple of exclusive screenshots of the game's "real-time virtual actors".

The two Heavy Rain screens show, up close and personal, the astounding visual detail that Quantic Dream has been able to give the game's characters. Cage spoke about what is required to create such lifelike facial characteristics in their animations:

"Today, everything is visual, so yes, the hardware helps a lot to reach the visual quality that becomes necessary. Virtual actors, especially, are for me the most important part. I see them as the vectors of emotion; I need them to be as believable as possible in their acting performance and emotional response. Quantic Dream has massively invested over the past ten years in this aspect by acquiring a Motion Capture system internally and working very hard on facial animation and advanced rendering systems in particular."

Cage also remarked on his different experiences in developing Fahrenheit and his current project, Heavy Rain: "Multi-layered plotlines are a pure nightmare to write. The writing of Fahrenheit has been incredibly difficult and painful for me, as I was writing a new format in its most complex dimension. My current project has been easier to write, which was a relief, as it means I start to have a better understanding of this specific form of interactive writing."

Unfortunately, Cage wouldn't go into details about Quantic Dream's enigmatic title for the PlayStation 3, saying only that gamers should "Expect to be surprised."

Keep your eye on TVG next week for the first in a line of new TVG.TripleTap features, which take an in-depth look at the important topics from the people that matter.
Take a look at these bad boys...

Those are the kinda graphics that can finally be compared to real life.

I spoke to Cage at the BAFTAs on Wednesday. He was truly blown away to get the Story award. Nice guy. Very French.

So whatever happened to DLC for this game? I apologize if it has been answered already, but I don't feel like reading through the old thread.

So, I finally picked this game up and have been playing through it. Really really liking the game, too. The writing is great, the storytelling is great, and I'm really liking all the main characters. The controls, specifically when walking, and the voice acting are pretty much my only gripes with the game. Some of the voice actors are really good, like Shelby. But others are really amazingly bad, like the voice of the two kids in that flashback scene. But, the game has been great so far.

I did encounter something strange. I think some kind of glitch erased my save, getting rid of all my bonues too. I don't know how far along I was to beating it, but I've had to start again at the Prolouge because...well, I don't know why.

yea some of the voice acting is pretty terrible (im looking at you Sean and Jason). it makes you wonder why didnt they just get american actors, or why didn't they just set the story in france.

Really I only thought the children were horrible voice actors, and thankfully they werent seen often at all. All the main characters were pretty decent

Yeah, absolutely right Havok. The children are the worst.

And so far (still laying through it) Shelby's voice actor is great, Ethan's is good but has been spotty at times. Like he just doesn't give a **** or something, but considering he's supposed to be depressed I guess it kinda works. Jayden is pretty damn good with the accent, but there's sometimes one word or a syllable that sticks out like a sore thumb. Madison's is pretty good too.

The use of the term "Wasteland" is kinda weird, though. I mean, if this was Fallout it'd be okay. But Heavy Rains is taking place is an urban enviroment. A city, basically. Just strange how they use the term.

So...I beat Heavy Rain yesterday. Managed to get the "good" ending, I guess. Got the "Four Heroes" trophy. Did not see that twist coming at all.

I wish I was that lucky. Someone posted the killers name in an unrelated post on another site. I tried to click out, but it was too late. It was still a fun experience though.

No one sees the twist coming, but that's because the game outright lies to you about it.

How did the game lie?

You know men who cheat on their Wives go on living a life and think to themselves that it never happen. Also the game did not show the mental dialogue every second of all the characters in the game. People cry that it had fake thoughts. That's just ********. People who think like that probably cant focus On a clear mind of thoughts for more than 20 seconds.

Yeah it didnt lie. People just werent looking for that twist. Playing it multiple times, you can see where the game does drop hints of the twist, without being too obvious of it

There was one moment that I feel they MAY have cheated us with the twist, but I cannot say it for sure because I'll have to pay attention in that chapter, for that moment.

But, aside from that one chapter in question for me...the twist itself holds up pretty well. I can see how players may have felt like they were lied to, but I don't think there's anyway it would have worked as well as it did otherwise. Even right after the "Solving the Puzzle" chapter, I still hadn't figured it out until the flashback scene.

The gamer pulls two ridiculous lies.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Shelby, on many occasions, thought stuff like "I should be able to find out more about the origami killer here" etc. He is the origami killer and he went to those places to gather up evidence. So yeah, that's the game lying to you. It's no reflection on my mental state that I can't buy the fact that Shelby wasn't thinking "I'm the origami killer" in every scene. The guy was actively seeking out to destroy the evidence otherwise why would he even go there in the first place?

Secondly is the clocks scene. Where Shelby walks round the corner and "finds" the old guy dead? Come on it cut out 30 seconds of something the character YOU were playing did. That works in a film but it's just an outright lie to round the corner and cut straight to Shelby looking shocked. Big. Fat. Lie.

I'm inclined to agree with Electro on that. I played it through again a month or so ago, and there is a lot of unnecessary things that make no sense once you know the truth, largely the characters internal dialogue.

Also, i've heard so many people try to justify why

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Ethan blacks out and wakes up with Origami and dreams of drowning boys
but it still just doesn't make sense. It's a cheap, tacky attempt at a red herring that just cheats and lies to you basically. They don't even bother to try and justify it.

That part was in the game but got cut out. Originally they were going for a more paranormal explanation for that but felt it took away from the game. I think they were trying to keep it grounded in reality. You should check out the video clips that came with the Move edition. They are also up on the PSN, which you can download when it goes up today. Several deleted scenes shed insight to unanswered questions

Here are a video with some deleted scenes which would've explained you spoiler, still stupid as hell and I'm glad it didn't go with it. HEAVY SPOILERS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxpdGB6Gbac SPOILERS

The Madison part doesn't seem half bad tho. She could've needed some fleshing out.
