Am I the only one who thought Bioshock from the title? Looks interesting but since I don't have a PS4...

You should give at least the first one a try. It's a great story.

Considering that Irrational Games, who made Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite, was shut down last year, and that Ken Levine has moved on to other things we aren't likely to get a remaster of Bioshock 1 or Bioshock Infinite. If you want to play them you're gonna have to play the ps3 or 360 versions.

ah man, that's unfortunate. i didn't know that. who owns the IP? they can always outsource a potential remaster to another in-house or 3rd party dev.

Luckily the IP remains with 2K. Any new Bioshock games would be developed Take Two under 2K.

Unfortunately Bioshock Infinite only sold 6 million units in its first year. http://arcadesushi.com/take-two-reve...nite-and-more/

Ken Levine, the creator of Bioshock, told Take Two and 2K that it would sale 200 million units. In short, it was a massive bomb and 2K have very little incentive to remaster a bomb.

Quote:
With Irrational Games closing, many wonder how this could happen to the company that made the BioShock series. The owners at Take-Two may have been disappointed with the sales of Infinite especially after expecting 200 million as projected by creator Ken Levine. With BioShock Infinite being stuck in development hell for around five years, the financiers at Take-Two were getting concerned. Some were questioning how they could possibly make their money back from this investment. It was only the reassuring words of BioShock Infinite director and Irrational Games co-founder Ken Levine that calmed Take-Two down. We spoke with a Take-Two employee who wishes to remain anonymous on where it all went wrong.

“In retrospect, we probably should have seen the 200 million projected sales of BioShock Infinite to be unrealistic,” said the employee, “But Ken just sold us so well on the game. Sure it was taking far too many years to complete, but we thought it just needed more time to become a mega-seller. He described the sales of Infinite to have the mainstream appeal of Wii Sports, the classic charm of Tetris and the inspiring violence of Grand Theft Auto. That sounded perfect to accountants who have never played video games.”

“On top of all that, he said that BioShock Infinite would push the boundaries of gaming so far that it would get people who would never even touch a video game to buy it,” continued the employee, “People who don’t own video game consoles would still buy the game because of how powerful the message is. Homeless people would ask for a copy of the game instead of change. Ken even said at one point that Gandhi would not have died if he had just played BioShock Infinite and retired before his assassination when he realized that his work was already done.”

This may explain why people who were more versed in the video game industry were quitting Irrational Games before the end of BioShock Infinite‘s development. As to why Levine still has a job at Take-Two, the employee said that Levine promised that his next game will definitely change the world and sell a more realistic 100 million copies.

what the f... 200 million? the ps3 and 360 combined didn't have a 200 million install base. that is beyond unrealistic. and 6 million copies sold is phenomenal.

I think they mean 200 million dollars. That or they're crazier than Square Enix.

Edit: Nope. They're crazier than Square Enix.

That takes some balls though to wake up and say you're going to outsell all Grand Theft Auto games combined with a single game.

Reach for the stars, Take-Two.

No it's really not.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 sold 26 million units..

Black ops 2 sold 24 million.

These are the sort of sales that are now required for a AAA game to be considered successful. Which is why so many developers and publishers are one bomb away from having to lay off employees and or shutdown. This is the nature of the modern gaming business. As publishers spend more to make bigger and more advanced games it requires an absurd number of units to be sold.

yes it is. just because it's not selling tens of millions doesn't mean it's not an impressive feat. i'm pretty sure dark souls 2 didn't even reach million, yet bloodborne was #1 on some gamers' most anticipated of 2015 lists.

aaaaand more to the point, cod from 2009 to 2012 was the best selling video game franchise and not a single one of those games sold 100 million copies. hell, NO game has ever sold 100 million copies except tetris.

yeah, at first it was units at first. selling 200 million is unthinkable and quite frankly impossible, considering the install bases.

btw, will you be available for shareplay later tonight?

I just find it funny that it's this game they thought would sell 200 million.

What the hell are they smoking over there.

The only man who can say a game might sell 200 million and isn't talking out of his ass is Miyamoto. And only if he is making a new Mario game for cell phones.

And sure. I'll be on in an hour or so.

Look it's not about what you or I think are good sales numbers. I'm just telling you what the game needed to do to make a profit. It needed to sale more than 6 million units. Ken Levine set his sights absurdly high, but games today need to sell more than six million units. Not 200 million units but more than 6 million. 6 million units did not make it a profit. That's just the facts of the matter whether you or I like that or not.

You want some real perspective,Call of Duty Ghosts sold over 4 million units in its first week. Advanced Warfare sold over 3 million in its first week. Investors don't want to wait years for a return on their investment. They want a return quickly. Bioshock Infinite didn't offer a return fast enough. Hell it didn't offer a return at all.

They could also just not take five years to design a game.

The game's development has its own page on Wikipedia. Seriously.

Yeah I know. They essentially designed and built 2 different games. The first one got pared down and scrapped part way through production and the game we got was vastly different in a lot of ways from what we were shown at the beginning of the games production. It was a sloppy production. The fact 2K allowed it to go on as long as it did is pretty astonishing, but I guess Ken kept blowing smoke up their ass.
