Default Cap 3 has a release date

A couple of hours ago the May 6 2016 release date was announced, so I'm surprised this hasn't got a thread yet.
I decided to make one. for you to discuss.

The only way this movie can compete with the Superman/Batman movie with Wonder Woman on same date is if they put other Avengers like the Hulk or Ironman with Captain America.

I think another way you compete with MOS2: BvS ft WW is simple. Give it one of these titles to end the trilogy:

The Death of Captain America

Captain America: Fallen Son

Or

Captain America: Liberty Falls

You just make the movie the death of cap or supposed death and it will sell itself.

If you really wanted to stick it to WB/DC this would be huge.

You just say you're releasing Cap 3 on that Date then give it the title:

Captain America: Civil War

You make it with more than Cap and make it more Avengers 2.5.

That would be amazing!

People say, "If TWS opens big this April, Marvel ought to move CA3 up a few weeks to April 2016" -- but this production has the inevitable time crunch on it. Its competition, 'Batman vs. Superman' (whatever its official title will be), will begin shooting in a few weeks. Marvel doesn't even have the script ready, and at the earliest they can film CA3 is at the end of year/early 2015.

They'll need some leeway for reshoots/pick-ups too... so an April 2016 move is kinda pushing it. It doesn't need to be rushed. Besides, I think CA3 will likely play better around the Fourth of July holiday weekend because of the patriotic nature of the character.

TWS started filming in April and The Avengers 13 months out, 15 months (January 2015) would be plenty of time for April 2016.

I'm fine with Cap 3 releasing in early May. If WB wants to release the same weekend so be it.

If anyone should move its Batman vs Superman. Marvel had that date well before WB. WB is just trolling .

It'd be a bad move for all parties involved.

Good thing Evans is signed on through Avengers 3, which will come after Captain America 3, because Fallen Son for Cap 3 is a terrible idea.

I think the amount of goodwill that this film will have going for it due to Cap2 elevates it to a status where its a true contender- even w.out adding any other characters. Caps stock has risen greatly and DC has more to lose than Marvel. It'll be interesting to see who blinks first though....

I hope that the studio gives the writers and the directors the creative leeway to craft a highly compelling third movie. Hopefully they won’t go overboard with the villains, having too many, etc. The action sequences need to be elevated and at least as intense as this one. Stakes should be even higher for this film.

But I’m wary of putting this right up against the Batman/Superman film. Cap’s films have proven to be solid box office performers so far. But this is outright splitting the “comic book audience” for that weekend. For whatever it’s worth, it may not be great for both films, but in the case of Cap, it’s already “Part 3”, and even if it is top notch, it may have an uphill battle against the also very anticipated “world's finest” film.

My suggestion would be for Cap 3 to have a soft opening on Wednesday (or the following Wednesday), and it can build up some steam. Also, they can release the film internationally on the same day or just slightly earlier, to boost up foreign box-office returns.

I guess we'll see what happens. The studio folks need to realize that the success of these films from each studio technically helps keep up the momentum for the rest.

I'm really surprised after the huge success Cap 2 was that they don't move the Cap 3 date up to April as well.

If neither film is going to move their release date, then I'm rooting for Captain America 3 to triumph. I'm looking forward to Batman VS Superman, sure, but it was a dick move on their part moving their film back into Marvel's slotted release date in an effort to flex their muscles and intimidate Marvel into moving out of the release date they already had set.

Ok still don't get this debate.

We all live in a society where even the lower class can afford to watch 2 movies in a weekend.

Unless, your a spiteful DC or Marvel fanatic...and just say I'll watch this movie over the other just because.

C'mon people we can all watch them both!!!

If MOS2 makes 100 million and Cap3 makes 95 million or vice versa then both companies still made money.

It's more of a bragging rights who wins the first weekend but financial wise unless both are good movies then both are winners.

Who really here or knows someone who will say..."I'll watch this but not the other." If that's the case, then that person weren't going to support the other movie in the first place, no matter what date it falls on.

Either way both will be financially successful even on same date.

Even if one beat the other by a few millions.

So if WB made $105 million on first weekend while Cap 3 made $110 million, do you guys really think WB will consider MOS2 a failure and not continue the DC shared universe franchise???

The numbers for both movies wouldn't be that high. If one cracks 100, the other most likely makes 60.

A 40 million difference??

I think the most difference would be like 20 million.

Cap is coming off from a successful sequel and Age of Ultron while MOS will put the Big 3 of DC in one movie for the first time.

So it's most likely people will see both on opening weekend.

So if one cracks 100 then I think the other will make 80 at worst.

Both films will do great financially.

It's really more about bragging rights between DC and Marvel.
