I still have my doubts whether this was really a god blast or another ability Thor manifested (or even a huge mystical thunderbolt). It insn't very clear.

Yeah it wasn't described very well, but he did say it came from within him which fits the description of his god blast.

I had assumed that the dark powers that Odin used would be the reason/thing that attracted Thanos's attention to Earth, but that's clearl not the case anymore...so I'm wondering if the consequences for Odin having used his dark powers to send Thor back is what potentially leads to the unleash/freedom of Surtur in the MCU/Nine Realms in Thor 2

^ I just hope it doesn't "weaken" him, part of his character is to be a "deux ex machina" and I'm tired of him being shafted just to make Thor seem more useful.

Yeah most likely he'd step in and pay Thanos an old fashioned "beatin" and he does have the power to do so.

Isn't the Odin sleep what balances Odin's Deus ex machinaness. What if it just increases the length of his slumbers.

Yes it is, that's why I want to see Odin in all his "All Father" glory in THOR II since he was suffering from the effects of the Odin sleep in THOR.

Yes, it was pretty one-sided honestly and the only thing Thanos really managed to do was "keep getting back up".

Yeah, Skyfathers are not to be messed with. I still give Hulk props for marching up the slopes of Mt Olympus and taking the worst beatdown he ever received from Zeus to save his friends. That fight was beautifuly drawn, and brutal.

Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in the MU so it just speaks volumes that Odin was able to give him such a beating.
