IIRC, in the Batman Begins special features on the disc, Nolan said the studio wanted to know exactly how long the film was going to be before they even filmed it. I don't have my disc on me right now where I am to check 100%, but they knew, for that film anyway, before it was even filmed and edited.

Nolan: It's 2:20. 2:17 has been printed, but 2:20 is accurate. Three years ago, I went to the studio, and I told them roughly what the film was going to be, and I told them it would be two hours and 20 minutes long. The reason is that to me the epic scope of the story we were aiming for, combined with the fact that, in dealing with the origins of the story, you have to spend a lot of time before you even get to Batman. And you want a number of action scenes—you basically want a two-hour blockbuster movie plus an extra movement to the piece at the end with credits—which comes out at two hours and 20 minutes as opposed to two hours and five minutes. We had to start at the very beginning of the story, treating [Bruce Wayne] as a child—and spend time doing that, not just a montage, but really embrace the story—you need that extra room. When you look at the highest grossing movies, they're really long films, whether it's Titanic or The Sound of Music or Gone with the Wind. I always want a film I work on to be as short as it possibly can, and it took a while because there's a lot of story here to cram in. There aren't any deleted scenes on the DVD, because we never removed story; we just compressed it. So it's a furiously paced film, and we're very fortunate that musicians helped us achieve a unity with the right tempo.

BOM: Is there anything you would change?

Nolan: No, it's exactly the film I want. It's not that you look and say it's perfect, but it's all the film I wanted to make. There's always compromise involved with that—but they're all my choices.

I felt that TDK was a bit too long...I actually hope that TDJR is closer to 2hrs...2:15 at most...than 2-1/2 or above.

Nolan: No, I think you're rooting for Batman at the expense of Bruce Wayne. The feeling of the end of the film is the ending, or postponement, of the relationship with Rachel [the character played by Katie Holmes]—it's the ending of the Bruce Wayne story and the beginning of Batman—Batman begins.

As do I. That's because the man only seems to speak when he has something really important or insightful to say. I've never really seen a pointless interview with him. All his interviews are filled with good information about the man and his films.

It's hard to believe that with Pfister's talk about having a lot to shoot and not being sure how it was going to work and then with all the talk during the shooting that there was a massive amount of footage being shot coupled with this being the final chapter that this film would be less the 2 1/2 hours.

Now the rough cut was shown with visual effects unfinished, it's possible entire scenes dealing with all or mostly visual effects were left out. It's also possible that this source which let us down before us letting us down again.

If only a little over 2 hours I'd be disappointed.

How many of you actually go out to the restroom during a film at the theater? For me I never leave the theater once the movie plays, my 8 or so dollars wont be wasted from taking a piss break.

Same here. Either people are being fat asses and drinking their sodas in record time or they have bladder problems. I've always gone to the bathroom before the movie starts and never had a problem.

I usually don't get concessions when I go to a movie. Depending on the length of the film and what I've had to drink beforehand I also usually don't get up to pee during the screening. I'm definitely going to make sure not to do either when I'm seeing TDKRises.

Yeah, it'd take a magazine that's had great sources in the past to be able to get that info. Like Variety.

2.) History:
• Batman Begins - 140 minutes
• The Dark Knight - 152 minutes

If you inflate the runtime with credits, sure it does.

The actual runtimes:

Batman Begins - 2 Hours and 11 Minutes
The Dark Knight - 2 Hours and 25 Minutes

So 'just over two hours' seems right in that ballpark.

Shame if it's true, though. That'll make Batman shorter than Avengers.

RunPee has saved my moviegoing experience. My bladder really likes to troll me at the movies for some reason, so I at the very least try to run out in the most inconsequential parts.

I usually don't leave the theater for anything during the movie because I don't want to miss anything. I sure as hell won't leave during TDKR, and if anyone around me disrupts my viewing experience they can expect a punch.
