It's a new one but just a rehash of the EW article.

Same here! Maybe we concentrate more on trying to understand than native english speakers.

The only ones who I would say are "butthurt", are the ones who are pissed that their movie is being critiqued. I don't think it's a mystery why some had a hard time hearing a guy who has a mask on that is muffling his dialogue, all while he uses an unknown accent.

Why is it an equal mystery to some that people understood him though?

It is a mystery for me why people didn't understand Saito in Inception. And if I have to be completely honest, Inception is everything BUT my film. It's good, but for me, it wasn't that special.

But at this point what I've noticed is that people who are not native English speakers tend to understand a person with a foreign accent better than a regular English speaker. None of my friends, and 90% of them are foreigners, had any problem understanding Saito. That's why it's a mystery to me.

You keep bringing this up, but who keeps saying that it some kind of mystery that people can understand him? I'm sure there are plenty of people who can understand him, and that's fine, but that's not to say that since some can, that everyone who can't, are just some sort of idiotic butthurt fanboys who are trashing Nolan for the sake of it with nothing to back up their opinions with. It should be completely understandable why people are having a hard time understanding him.

I like a lot of different kinds of Death Metal, and MANY people can understand the lyrics just fine, but I also know of a ton of people who can't. Are all the people who can't understand Death Metal hyperbolic critics, or is it because the singer screams and growls to a point to where it's hard to understand?

You seem to lack any kind of understanding or basis for anything that is outside of your own mindset, and instead of trying to realize other peoples point of views, you just like to point the finger for excuses as to why the thing you love is being put to question.

But why is it a mystery that people could have a hard time understanding an actor that speaks in broken English? My Grandma(Oma) is German, and she can speak English, but she still has an extremely thick accent. Most of my friends can't understand a word she says, but I'm not mystified why they can't understand her, as it's apparent. I can understand her just fine, but the idea that my friends can't understand her isn't lost to me.

No offense, but I actually don't believe you and those I've seen say similar things. Were I to have asked you transcribe every word Saito said in Inception or Hardy in the prologue during your first viewing, I bet you and your friends would be incapable of meeting the challenge. Of course the gist of what was said can be intimated from context, but I think anyone who claims they understood every word is just posturing.

Right this is the equally bad, opposite thing that Travesty keeps talking about.

now all of a sudden everyone who understands the lines, is a liar.

give me a break.

This argument .

Let's try this. Some people had trouble understanding Bane and Saito. Others had no problem at all. There is no rhyme or reason to things like this. We're all individuals, with our own levels of perception. Just because some people had a hard time understanding these characters doesn't make them deaf, nor does it make them Nolan bashers. By the same token, just because other people had no trouble understanding these characters doesn't make them liars, nor does it make them Nolan apologists.

Now please, for the love of God, take this useless argument out back and shoot it.

I'm quoting one of the posts there, it's a really cool statement:

Quote:
Actually, I think this could be really, really provocative, thought-provoking stuff. Here we have Batman protecting Gotham's elite from a terrorist whose M.O. is attacking the wealthy and elite. Apparently, poverty and some remnants of the Narrows still exists in the city. So really you could be tempted to see Batman as the bad guy here because he’s defending a status quo that still encourages stratification. Granted Batman has used his wealth to defend the citizens, but I’m sure that Batman will feel a bit of guilt about the kind of people he’s really protecting. The kind that would bring about the coming of people like Bane. I think this might come down to ideologies. Because Bane is willing to take innocent lives to further his cause that would clearly make him villain. But Bane’s ideology is not a bad one, it’s just a matter of how far you take it. How far are you willing to go to bring about change. I think this will be a divisive film for some fans and I love that Nolan is willing to take that risk.

I've seen the bootleg and in imax during mi4. I saw the bootleg first, I could understand everything but the wreckage part, in the theater I could barely understand it because it was so loud. I think Nolan has hearing problems cause every movie I've seen parts were way to loud and it was hard to hear dialog. It's not that Bane mumbles it's that the sound mixing is sometimes garbage.

Says you. Taking a middle ground doesn't at all mean you're right. If I think someone who claims to have understood every word coming out of Saito's mouth on a first viewing is lying defensively, I'll say so.

I couldn't care less if you believe me or not. That is up to you.

Travesty, you do have a fair point, but as I said, I believe those foreign accents are probably easier to understand to non-native English speakers, especially our everyday activities involve speaking with other foreigners all the time.

I will stop discussing this for now, I will wait until I see the film. Let's see how much of Bane's dialogue I'll be able to understand.

It's so weird that Tom is in South Africa, getting reading for Mad Max 4 with Charlize Theron and yet it seems like WB is super quiet on it.
