Honestly Wonder Man will never be in a movie, mostly because he's called Wonder Man.

How about Simon Williams? I doubt a name would prevent a character from making an appearance.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Wonderman either.
The only Avengers I REALLY want to see on the team are Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, Vision, Hank Pym, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Beast & Spider-Man (inb4 the mad).

Disney is going to be under pressure to live up to the hype of the first film. Including Marvel's most popular hero on the team is a heck of a way to do it, and Sony has plenty of incentives to hitch Spider-Man to the Avengers bandwagon, especially if they can get some cameos in future Spidey films. That said, I want The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to end with an after-credits scene in which Nick Fury approaches Peter Parker. |

I have mixed feelings about Spider-Man in an Avengers film. While it doesn't make me recoil in disgust the way Wolverine's presence would, I think it undermines his personal hero journey if he's suddenly a member of a publicly celebrated superhero team.
I think part of the appeal of the early Spidey comics is that he wasn't all glitz and glam and acclaim, which is exactly what the Avengers are. I wouldn't mind him helping the Avengers with a big threat, or crossing over, but I think permanent membership would ill suit the Spider-Man. As for my inclusion of Wonder Man on my list, I admit Wondy has some lameness about him, but there are so many key moments of Avengers continuity (and great ones at that) that revolve around him. His death in Avengers #9, The Vision's entire identity crisis from the 50s to the early 100 issues, where he debates if he's Simon Williams or his own man, and the brother drama that incurs when Wonder Man does return from the dead. One of my favorite Avengers issues ever is the one off story in Buseik's run right after Ultron Unlimited, involving Vision and Wonder Man. I understand that sometimes we get caught up in our continuity, and years of convoluted story telling don't translate well onto the big screen, but Vision is my favorite Avenger outside of the big 3, and a lot of the character's pathos comes from his relationship with the Williams boys.

I wouldn't mind seeing Spider-Man pop in just long enough to be offered a spot on the team and then turn it down.
Not wanting to have to give up his real identity could be the angle. Just a cameo in Avengers 2 to show he exists in their universe, but then a bigger role in Avengers 3. Last edited by I'm Venom; 10-01-2012 at 11:15 AM. |

Co-sign. He basically destroyed the classic Avengers franchise.

I'd love to see Wonder-Man in a movie, although as people on here have already suggested, perhaps it'd be better for him to be known purely as Simon Williams with [maybe] a character sarcastly referring to him as 'Wonder-Man' at some point. Have to say though, I've never really been too fond on him in his pure ionic form; always preferred the previous version, visually.

Eh, I really don't mind Spidey as an Avenger to be honest.
I find it hilarious that some fans think it will happen in the movies, though. Wolvy as an Avenger is terrible, but it's not like Deathcry or Gilgamesh or Doctor Druid were better Mostly I dislike Bendis for inflicting Sentry on the world (I know he didn't create him, but you know what I mean) |

If Spider-Man had as much screentime as he did in Ultimates 2, Book 2, that would be fine with me. But, I would prefer he not become the primary character, due to his oversaturation and tendency to turn titles into "Spidey and His Amazing Friends." Don't get me wrong - I'd like to one day see Bendis' final arc with Norman Osborn brought to the screen or see Oscorp Tower - but, I just don't want Spider-Man to become the centerpiece of the narrative. Not when other character such as Hawkeye and Black Widow need more screentime, in addition to other Avengers who have not even made it to film yet (Scarlet Witch, Pietro, Ms. Marvel, etc.) Now, a solution would be to have SHIELD, Fury, and maybe an Avenger or two appear in a future Spider-Man film, and focus on him joining them, and have him join the team in a future Avengers film.

Obviously you are blinded by your bias, cause he's probably a favorite of yours. But think about it, when you think of spiderman, do you really associate him with the avengers? He's better off on his own. And if he starred in an avengers movie, think about how it would be. It would be spidy and friends vs thanos, or spidy and friends vs ultron. That doesn't work. He just doesn't belong. It would suck

It would be cool if a spidey movie had spidey vs "The Sinister Six" and "The Avengers" show up in the final battle to help him fight them off. Then spidey gets offered to join "The Avengers".

While I agree wholeheartedly that it just wouldn't feel right, my 5 year-old son disagrees.
![]() Of course he goes back and forth at times which super hero movie is his favorite. Ultimately he always comes back emphatically to Spider-Man though.

That would be really cool. Especially Andrew Garfield and Robert Downey Jnr on screen together.

Yes he was/is. In this century, anyway. Check out New Avengers.

Right, a century that's only a dozen years old. Cool for the little kids out there who only know comics from the last 10 years or so, or most likely just the movies, not so much for most of us who've seen a little more mileage than that. I agree that Spider-Man should be kept to his own franchise. It's a much better fit for the web-slinger, and the Avengers has had so many great members throughout the years that there are plenty of other cool ones to utilize.
