I voted other before I realized you probably meant on-screen. My vote was for the IDW comics.
But on screen it would be the 1990 movie by far.

The 1990 movie is my favorite as well. They did a good job of combining the comics with the cartoon.

I think the 90s live-action movie is a great mix if their comic-book beginnings and the 80s cartoon. Great balance of fun and serious with an engaging storyline, cool practical-effects and nice acting. As a comic-book movie it is underrated, In my opinion it should be considered a genre classic.

I think the 90s film nailed it. I started out with the original cartoon but I don't revisit it. Also I didn't start reading tmnt comics until much later. I liked the fun loving turtles opposed to the edgy comic incarnations at the time.

My vote goes for other, with other being the Archie Universe, because it combined the 87 Fred Wolf Toon, with Mirage Overtones. ( go back and read those when you get a chance, the writing was excellent, especially the future war story-arc)

My favorite movie was the 1990 and Turtles Forever, ( with Secret of the ooze coming in third). I hated Turtles in time and TMNT.
Absolutely loved the 87 toon, up until the red sky/Lord Dregg episodes ( that last season was completely garbage). 2003 4kids toon ties with the my love for the 87 toon, and original Mirage comics. Completely hated Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers ( yuck). Image Turtles were interesting, and satisfied my late 90's turtle fix at a time their popularity dropped. Dreamwave 's turtles had potential, but sadly didn't get catch on ( loved Lesean Thomas' artwork). Loved Mirage's earlier, grim and gritty turtles, but didn't care for Peter Laird's writng or Jim Lawson's artwork towards the end. But Tristan Jones " Tales of the TMNT " was a SUPERB !!! Kinda feeling the IDW series, especially since Kevin Eastman is on board, and its like " Ultimate Turtles ", not too crazy about the artwork. |

TMNT movies 1 & 2 are goofy fun It's ok, you can still mention the Archie comics

The 1990 movie. Though the "new" cartoon ain't bad. I just wish they would stop using the word "shell" the way the Smurfs use "smurf".

Smurfs use smurf for everything. For this show they use 'shell' for cussing, I think the reason is cause a comic adaption was written by Peter David, the guy who made everyone in the 2099 universe say "SHOCK" as a cuss

I'm a huge fan of all things TMNT but this recent reboot by IDW Publishing is simply stellar.

I'm an '86 so I spent my mornings in front of the 80s television show! It is my absolute favourite of them all, but that said, watching it now, just makes me cringe... the movies (1, 2 and TMNT) are great, as well as the 2003 series. Thanks to the gods of Dimension X that they made Turtles Forever which made me relive the 80s cartoon again without the cringyness hehe

I like the turtles with a more serious and gritty slant, but still fun and with a bit of humor in there. So,for me the 90' movie was perfect.

2003. As much as I like the Movie and still do, I like the bit more serious tone of the 2003 cartoon, as in not every Turtle dancing when Splinter wants to meditate, the fact that it drew heavy from the Mirage comics and for giving us the best portrayal of Shredder. Loved Shredder in the Movie, hated that he was commanding Ninja brats.

2003. It has all the seriousness of the 1990 film that I loved while toning down on the silliness that has, with age, gotten tiresome. And without it Turtles Forever wouldn't have been made an an actual animated adaptation of the Mirage Turtles wouldn't have happened. That was, by far, my favorite part of that movie.

I didn't like the 4Kids series all that much. Found it mediocre cause it felt too self important at times. Especially the Utrom Shredder. Even the mirage comics had their sense of fun and humor. No need to be all ultra serious especially when you're a kids show.
I appreciate that it hooked a new generation onto the property and helped keep it relevant though. I just like a better balance with my turtles. The IDW comic series definitely hits that sweet spot.

Yeah, it had serious tones, but too ultra serious? There were still a lot of funny elements. I can't understand how you can call it being too self important.
