My friends read/watch all comic book movies, most are looking forward to Superman, even those who don't like him, just because Nolan's attached to it, in some way.
BUT, I was going to see The Avengers for a second time (with girlfriend and mom) and my lady wanted me to go get her a coke, the line was HUGE. I'm behind this mid-age lady, and she starts talking, and I hear TDKR trailer playing in the theater, and was saying how upset I was that I missed it, then she said she couldn't wait to see that and the new Superman movie. I thought that was cool. It just needs an awesome teaser to get people talking and excited for it, regardless how they feel about Superman. If GA can forget Batman & Robin, they can get over Superman Returns, which was nowhere near as bad as B&R.

I'd say SR was more forgettable definitely.
B&R, whether you love it or hate it, certainly sticks in the mind

About superman, he's not as popular here as Batman. A lot of people don't even know there will be another supes movie yet.

And no, a lot of people don't know there is going to be a new Superman movie yet. But that's because it's over a year away. I mean, the month before Avengers, no one knew what I was talking about. Then the week or so before, it was all anyone was talking about. And I mean of all ages, people were saying 'oh yeah, I wanna go see that'. It was just really heavy on the TV spots and guest appearances and stuff, which is exactly what needs to happen with MOS nearer the time.

When I tell them they ask "really? Why?" Then I tell 'em Christopher Nolan is helping and their mood brightens.

Happens to me a lot as well. And I've been noticing this trend online too. That's why I really hope TDKR is a success and as loved by the public as TDK was, because that will only help MOS in the long run. Also the cast seems to be getting good reactions. It's a good varied cast that appeals to a lot of different people and with all the Oscar/star power and TV star power in it, it's getting some very good reactions indeed.

Funny reaction I keep getting for girls when I mention HC is playing Supes.
'Oh the guy from Immortals, yeah he's hot. Is there a trailer out yet?' ![]() I think it's possible girls will be attracted to this film for his face/body alone

It would be a sensible move, if only to establish his gruff 'manliness' as opposed to the 'gentle' nature of previous incarnations. Maybe gentles the wrong word, but you know what I mean.
I'm actually pretty excited, as a girl who's a Superman fan, about Superman being sexy for pretty much the first time for me

Cavill has definitely the gruff manliness down pat. You're right about the 'gentle' pat. It's worked for past Supermans, but I think it'll change people's perceptions of Cavill's version if they like the idea of a movie starring a 'rough and tumble' Superman who's not afraid to get dirty yet will adhere steadfastly to his do-gooder ideals. It'll make for an interesting juxtaposition I think. All I need to worry about is heart and actual character development and more importantly, magic, and I'm set. I invariably roll my eyes when it comes to Synder's slo-mo style as it just never seems to serve any purpose beyond visual pop, but while I hope he'd be a little more subtle, I think it will actually work for Superman and service his way of fighting extremely well. Just not overkill.

In a way the "alien" Superman approach may work. We may finally get some alien villians other than Zod. One thing that drove me crazy about the Donnerverse is they wouldn't go in that direction. They totally ignored that Superman was from another world. A world with an army that defended the planet krypton. Well hhhhmmm............................defended the planet from what? Jor El even said that kryptonians knew of 28 other known galaxies I'm assuming he meant galaxies with vast amounts of different intelligent life. People keep saying Superman is so hard to write for. I disagree, with today's CGI. 70% of Americans believe in ETs and we are not alone. With the right approach its easy to make Superman relevant now and in the future. |

As Kirby created Darkseid before Thanos, I had hoped he would be on screen first. Oh well. In the old days I always liked to talk with people like Showtime, GreenK, Sage, Iphus, and others... That the perfect theme would always be manipulation for the first film. Lex, Metallo, Brainiac with a Darkseid reveal at end. Lex manipulates Corben. Brainiac manipulates Lex. But we have the Lois and Clark type invasion story which should still be good if done right.

Last month I was telling people about this movie. They were 'meh,' so I told them Nolan was behind it and they were 'Ah, wow.'
Now I tell people about the movie and that Nolan is behind it and they say 'Meh, so no Whedon?' |

![]() And yet three months from now, those same people will be all over Nolan's junk yet again. The non-fans are always amusing to listen to.

The reaction I mostly get [from non-fans that could well and truly be considered as 'GA'] is one of mild indifference, tbh. Then when I see that reaction I take about 5 minutes to explain why they should be excited but, alas, my words have scant effect.

I think part of that might be because Superman is "old hat" you know what i mean? Obviously everyone knows who Supes is, but i mean, do that many people care after seeing all these new superheroes like your Iron Mans and your Thors and your Hulks?
Hopefully the new film will bring people around again. |

That's my thinking too. Hopefully, if we get an impressive trailer full of images that truly show Supes' abilites [or at least give the impression to the audience that they're going to see something visually interesting] then that might get their attention.

I think that it is story's job to sell the character, his motivations, what he stands for, and tell it in an entertaining way, which has been missing for Superman.
Just showing a bunch of events where Superman showcases his awesome powers in a visually stunning way will fail to draw in general audience, it will just attract comic book movie fans, the movie as a whole, then will fail commercially.

Most don't care about this re-boot but you can see the intrigue in their eyes when you mention Nolan is a part of it and "the guy who did Watchmen". I think that combination is pretty intense. You hear that and you go woah! It's all down to the fact that nobody has seen a clip, trailer, nothing for it. All in due time. I showed somebody the pic of Superman and they thought he looked much more badass. You can tell there was an interest there, compared to if we got another Reeve or Routh type shot. That promo pic alone is not the "typical" Superman that everybody thinks of, and that's gonna be a good thing i think

It's these things which keep the audience from immediately forgetting the movie when they walk out and will also help garner good reviews and good WOM and thus more tickets sold.
