![]() It's all in the marketing. Right now, Superman just isn't as popular as Batman or Iron Man, and with good reason. Other than the Justice League cartoon and Superman Returns, Kal-El has taken a backseat. |

All it needs is one kick-ass trailer in front of the widest audience possible to shake people out of their indifference. With TDKR, they've got the audience, now they just need the trailer - a trailer awesome enough for people to remember after the epicness of the movie they just saw after it.
They've got a major advantage in that they're waaaay further along in the production process than films in this position usually are, being well into post-production and all that, so they really have no excuse NOT to produce the unforgettable jolt of epic amazingness that this trailer needs to be.

I would even go one further and say all they need is one clip of him punching something and people will be sold. Snyder is good at filming people punch things and even though its cool for people on message boards to say they hate his use of slow motion, I'm sure the general audience doesn't care.

Yeah Superman Returns left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I think it's the fact the only supervillian was Lex and he wasn't very....super.

It still makes me wonder if WB during that time were so desperate for Superman movie that they greenlighted a script with almost no action. Quote:

If there is a slow-mo punch in the trailer, people on this forum will no doubt whine like mad... But any regular joe would be thinking 'wow, that punch looked so cool!' ![]() I for one will not be watching this film like a hawk going 'OMG that was a slow-mo shot, Snyder's so lame' every time he uses one. But then, I've loved all his movies and with the exception of a few moments in the owls of ga'hoole and sucker punch, I've never felt a slo-mo shot of his didn't look great.

I like snyder for his visual flair. Sucker Punch was very well directed. But I doubt his narrative abilities, as shown in Sucker punch. That said, I'm pretty confident MOS will be a great movie.
And clearly, the trailer could attract the crowd, if it shows them how powerful Supes is, and how epic the fights will be.

And that's what's been missing from the movies. What Snyder needs to show more than anything is the pure physical strength of Superman. The plane scene from SR is good, but It needs more. Superman fighting, and other amazing feats would greatly help.

To this day, many fans still swear by STM as the “definitive” Superman on film. But - scene-for-scene - it had about the same “action quotient” as SR (probably less). Singer’s (and WB’s) commercial (if not artistic) miscalculation was thinking that the drama/action balance that worked for Supes in ’78 still applied in ’06. (Singer got the “balance” better with X-Men and X2 - probably because he approached the material more objectively.)

Lex is so over used. I am sick of him. I am glad Zod is being used. Refreshing change.

Disagree about Lex being overused.
I just think Donner's version of Lex is lame, and yet was reused for modern audiences. Give me charismatic, coldfish, succesful businessman Lex any day of the week. |

I'm so glad they went with Zod and other kryptonians, makes perfect sense for a first-film threat. Brainiac might be a cooler villain by himself, but Zod makes for better possibilities in telling a Superman origin story imo.
You can't just put in stuff that's cool, it has to make sense and work with the story they want to tell. |

Lex is a great villain. I think Morrison did a great job with him in All Star Superman. I like that Lex thinks he's the good guy in a sense, and Supes is the real threat.

Yea, Lex Luthor: Man of Steel is also really good at showing what Lex is really about. He sees Superman as a threat to humanities progress. Lex thinks he's the good guy and Supes is a false god.
Anyway, people criticise Snyder for over use of "slo-mo", but i think that will be really effective for Superman, to show how ridiculously fast he is. Have him and Zod fighting normally but the whole world around them is in slow motion to really show how fast they are. To the normal human eye they'd just look like a blur. |

Thirded on LL:MOS, loved it.
I don't mind whether they take the 'he thinks he's protecting the world' route or not tho. My favourite aspect of Luthor interpretations is that he HIDES his villany. That he has a public face, he's charming and uses acts of philanthropy to pull the wool over people's eyes. He's basically the personification of every corrupt politician, business owner etc who lies to manipulate the public. But no matter what route they go, the point is there is SO MUCH to explore with Lex that has never been touched on in previous movies. |
